Not an easy one as i was also trying for a week and nothing. That day morning i saw one other member's note and then checked the site and got one date opened in apr and in few mins another date was also available. In next hour few hours i could not see any and then later in the evening one of them came back in apr. later on that day night onwards, no dates opened up.

Looks like one has to keep checking the site for availability which is pain. not easy way to know.

Hi everyone, I recently got approved for H1B but had my change of status denied so I have to travel out of the US for visa stamping. However I noticed that the Consulate selected in my approval notice was in my home country and it says I should fill a form I-824 to have the notice sent to a different consulate if I want to change it. I'm hoping to travel from the US to Canada using my Canadian PR card and go to Calgary consulate instead because of proximity and cost of the trip. Must I fill this form I-824 and send before I can appear at a consulate in Canada? Can anyone that has been in this situation let me know please? Thanks.

1. First you should check if you are on legal status.
2. Not many files it. Per options mentioned in this form, one should not even go to some other consulate/port in the same country. So i dont think this is an issue but who knows nowadays about the visa officers on what they would expect.
3. Whats your immigration team say about it?
4. If this was followed strictly then my extension petition which was approved to send the information to toronto consulate but i went to detroit port to get I94(yet to go for stamping). My earlier petition was marked to send the information to detroit port(tunnel) but went to toronto for stamping.
5. Rarely this form is used to get the duplicate notice on the approved petition but not sure what other usages.

I dont think its an issue but if you are PR then just attend here anyway as you are legal permanent resident hence there is no other logical reason to apply here. 99% should not be a problem.

@harirajmohan thanks for your response! to clarify, I am currently in the US (I was on STEM OPT which expired on Jan 29, 2020 but still within 60day grace period but got H1B approved on Feb 4 after RFE). I'm still waiting on feedback from my company's attorney but wanted to know from other's peoples first hand experience. Do you still think I can go to a canadian consulate instead of the consulate stated in my approval notice without filling the I-824 form? Thanks!

Yes, you can.
Another example which i forgot. The guys who go for stamping to Canada(who are not of Canadian PR), all/most have their petition marked to send the information to consulates in the country of citizenship. But they take visitor visa to get the stamping done in Canada.

Thanks for sharing your experience. So it appears after 2nd Feb no one was able to see any availability at Toronto. Any idea for how long you guys had to wait ? From 5 days I am not seeing any availability.

I booked this week Monday 10th. I think that i saw once, some date was available during this week after 10th.
From yesterday/day before, i am not seeing anything. So very few slots opens up is my guess and it gets filled in few hours(whoever sees it luckily at that time).

Have been trying for a week to get an appointment for H1b stamping in Canada. Looks like it is impossible to get one. Would appreciate some advice.

Just keep checking at all hours, only hope to secure a slot is hope for someone's cancellation. There are very few slots available for non-residents at US consulates in Canada and demand is very high. Even I'm struggling to secure one but I guess thats what everyone runs into.
