Hello Prospective Alberta Immigrant Nominee:[/i]

This thread is to provide information regarding State Police certificates, FBI backgorund check and Home Country police clearance certificates. As of now, CIC is accepting Police certificates, which should not be older than 90 Days, at the time of application to CIC. Therefore, make sure you apply to all kinds of police clearances after issuance of nomination certificate.

The time process of Alberta Nomination (US Visa holder category) has been radically updated. Early folks in Oct, Nov 2008 were able to get Nomination in 30-60 Days, Some December folks were able to get 70-90 days but now it is talking 8 months where 4 months to get file number and 4 months to get Nomination.

This is strongly advised that you apply for PCC's after getting certificate as this will consume only 45-50 days after Nomination but will save re-application to State Police certificates, FBI check and Home Country PCC..

As of Now following time line can be estimated to get PCC from State, FBI and Home Country:

State Police certificates= 3-4 weeks
FBI check = 3-4 weeks
Home Country PCC (depending upon country)= 5-6 weeks.

Please share your experiences and opinions.

I think it is a nice idea to apply for Police Clearance Certificate early. This can save a lot of time.

I have a question on what you wrote:

What do you mean by "Certificate" in your following line ?
make sure you apply to all kinds of police clearances after issuance of nomination certificate.

Does this mean the Nomination that one would receive after the File Number ?

Thanks,
Mohan

Mohan,

This means that time of process is changing. In case you apply early and get PCC's and AINP increase the process time then you will have to apply again because CIC will not accept PCC older than 90 Days.

FBI actually taken about 1 to 1.5 weeks to come. I recently applied only for FBI and it was on my door the next week. But since I have not yet got my file number or nomination (applied in Jan), I will apply only around end june to save about $200-$250!

Divagirl,

I too got the FBI within 2 weeks. But I suggest wait till you actuall hear about the nomination. You never know for any reason the processing times get extended, then it will be waste of money again.

Yes, I was about to apply for PCCs around April, but then the processing times got extended, so I am delaying the PCC process. I will see the timeline again in June before I apply for PCCs.

So did you receive your fine number on 19th March?

I plan to call them around July and check if they are giving the same answer as they gave me couple of weeks ago; that I should hear about the decission in July/Aug, and based on that I will apply too.

I have not yet got my file number :(. As AlbertaAINP had mentioned that he got his file number after sending a mail and the reply that he got was that his file number was mailed on March 5th, tho it was not, I guess mine is also generated and not sent to me! Fingers very crossed.
