Information for the guys who are going for FBI clearance...

outside the envelope just write

"Need it urgently before XX/XX/XXXX" and you will see the magic that you get FBI report around that date ... but be realistic in dates like if you are sending it today then say put date 15 dates from today.

like today is 01/07/2010 then put message like

"Need it urgently before 01/22/2010"..

I got this info from one of the fingerprinting guy and he says it always work.. so what's harm in trying...

good luck guys for Nomination and PR

I am still waiting for Document request....

I am expecting my nomination soon. For PCC from Indian consulate, Washington DC, any idea what documents to send and how much they will take for it. Also the time and documents to submit for Birth Certificates?
Thanks in advance

did u submit ur original passport too???

Yes I did. Also submitted the Photocopies (including I-94 & VISA Pages)

Documents for for PCC and Birth Cirtificate from Indian Consolate New York...

  • valid h1 visa stamp or valid I 797 (petition)
  • Address Proof
  • Misc form
  • fees
  • photo
  • copies of first 2 page and last pages of passport

Its best if you go in person, as for PCC and Birth Cirtificate as they need original passport for verification or submit certified copies of all the documents.

To Certify document you can go to your bank as normally in bank they have notary person. like in chase bank they always have one notary person available and if you hold account there they do it for free.

So if I plan to post docs... attested passport copies are enough and there is no need to send original passport

Thanks for the prompt reply, Kapil. I am planning to go in person. Do they issue it the same day in person or what is the wait time line, do you know?

Hi,
Has anyone here got the FBI report back? Does it take all of 8 weeks to get the response?
Thanks.

It's been about 5 weeks since FBI received my request for clearance but I haven't received the result yet.

So I called FBI today to check the status of my request. But all I could do was to confirm the receipt of my request and the receipt date. They said that I had to wait for 10 weeks from the receipt date.

Birth certificate you will get it same day i suppose but PCC comes in 30-45 days....

for PCC either you need to send ur original passport or go personally and show them as PCC is a two step process...

for first step certified copies works but for second stage they need original passport..

PCC from india has become fast these days....they will give u PCC in 2 weeks time! San Francisco consulate was fast not sure about the other ones.

i had read in earlier posts that FBI reports are pretty fast so i didn't mention the any date(the date by which i need it) either on cover letter nor on the envelope ...i think i should have. Did u mention any date Jasper?

Called FBI help desk today and they told me it used to matter 6-7 months ago, But now since almost every body is following this process, they are just taking every thing as regular request.

Thanks

I didn't write any specific date when I submitted my request (I used USPS Priority Mail envelope to send the request to FBI, so I couldn't write anything on the envelope anyway).

And when I called FBI, I told them that I needed the result as soon as possible, but they told me it would still take 10 weeks from the receipt date. So I guess I'll have to be patient for another 5 weeks...

Jasper,

Can you please let me know which no. you called for FBI PCC enquiry ?

Did you send the fingerprints on the downloaded cards or did you get the cards from FBI?

I have sent my request (using downloaded fingerprint cards) on 12/23 and according to USPS tracking they received it on 12/28. I wanted to be sure that they are processing my case. Can I call them and ask this?

The phone number of FBI CJIS Division is 304-625-2000. If you tell them that you want to check the status of your background check request, they'll transfer you to the right department. But according to some posts in this forum, it may take some time till your information is entered into their system. In my case, I had sent my request by USPS on 12/2/09 and FBI received it on 12/7/09 (according to USPS tracking).

And I used the fingerprint card that I downloaded from FBI website.
