So guys i went to Service ontario today to apply for health card with my AIP, safe to say i was thrown out they didn’t use the AIP and yes i’m in Ontario
Hi @Triplemog did you get your CoPR yet? Otherwise, I would recommend that you reach out to your MPP (you can find them through the Find Your MPP on this page: Find your MPP). They can reach out to the Ontario Eligibility Review Commission for you and even apply on your behalf. Due to the COVID crisis the OERC is temporarily issuing Health Cards by mail. Plus, I think that an MPP's office can better escalate the issue than if you contact the OERC directly.

@tony4454 and @MessiBoi in terms of maintaining status while doing the H&C, I think that you should talk to your lawyers about doing a visitor application. First if your work/study permit expires and you are not eligible for a bridging work permit or another temporary work permit scheme, then your lawyer can apply for a change in status in Canada -- which gives you implied status. I am not sure (check with a lawyer) but you might be able to continue working until the decision is made. Then they can ask for extensions-- which is risky because you could be denied your extension request. However, the processing time is like 6 months. The basic argument would be that your H&C is more likely to be successful if you stay in the country.

So have a conversation with your lawyer.

An experienced lawyer will tell you what's best.

Wouldn't passport renewal be contingent on your country's rules? I would check with the consulate -- see if you can renew the passport from abroad. Otherwise, just know that often consulates can give you emergency travel documents so that you can travel home and renew the passport there.

I have already applied for H&C and i am not gonna risk it by leaving country just to renew my passport

I meant after you get your PR card. Usually you can ask your consulate about the renewal of your passport from abroad. Worst come to worse, you can ask the consulate for an emergency passport and renew it in country if out of country renewals aren't allowed. Or if you don't know any one back home who can help. But that is something that you can do after you get your PR card.

Contact the consulate, embassy, etc first. It really depends country to country. Some developing & developed countries have means to renew the passport abroad and other countries might not allow it. Otherwise, I think that due to the particular long time for processing PR through H&C, passport expirations aren't uncommon. But your first resource is your country's embassy.

I dont mind letting it expire but my main concern is i wont be able to extend my statuz if my passport expires. Correct me if im wrong , all the documents issued is usually valid until your passport expiry date?

NO ! dom't leave the country if your application is still being processed and you have not yet received a decision (I hope for a positive decision especially for your very strong case..), for the passport you can see with the consulate/embassy of your country, you can renew it if you have an implicit status and send it by web form

Yes i am definitely not doing that. I have to speak with the embassy. I read the checklist required for passport renewals and it doesnt mention anything about implied status. Its only for either on study, work permit and visitor status.

when you have implied status and you are worker for exemple or visitor etc... you still have the same status when you did an extension ( implied status)
