Buy a GPS to show you the directions to malls, banks and other services. If you can read maps, use Google map to find the area of interest. You can check Craigslist for available rental homes listings but I doubt you can use travel cards. Airbnb perhaps.

You can open a bank account from your country and deposit money in it before landing.. They will issue debit cards and check book too.

You can open an account the next day you land in Canada. Account opening does not take more than an hour. Most of the banks have special accounts for new immigrants, they just need your passport and stamped COPR as documents. Once you have an account opened you can move funds to it via
- demand draft. Get it made when in your country.
- electronic transfer from your home country account. Not sure of the form name( form A2 might be in India) that needs to be filled for electronic transfer of money. Get in touch with your home country bank for the required documentation for electronic transfer.

You can also open a Canadian account and transfer money to that account before actually moving to Canada. This account would be inactive initially, you would be required to visit their branch in Canada once you are there. Another benefit of opening such an account is that they provide you with a balance certificate that can be used as proof of funds at POE.
There are many banks which provide the above facility

- icici bank in India

There are tons of options to choose in Regina. I like harbour landing in the southwest. It is a new area with everything nearby and rent is affordable. I live in the east in Gardiner Park. There are lots of apartments here near malls, wallmart, etc. to me this is the best area to live in the city . Also in the north end you can look at hawkstone, lakeridge, etc. Those are just some iptions i like. In regina you can live anywhere and you fill find malls and supermarkets nearby. You just have to avoid northcentral.

Thanks Henryahmed, the information was very informative. How about furnished rented home in harbour landing is it possible to get appartments in range of say 1000-1200 cad? Also do you have any info about 'Uplands' area in north Regina, how about crime rate, availiblity of malls and banks there if you come across any info or you might have explore that area in case? Regards

I do not know if you can get a furnished rental for that amount in harbour landing. Maybe you can... i know that you can get an unfurnished one for sure for that amount. The Uplands neighborhood is good but you will not have malls within reasonable walking distance (i mean walking in the winter at -20). In the North you can look at argyle, normanview, etc that are closer to malls. About crime... you will find crime in any city of the world... here in Regina you basically have to avoid "North central" that is an area north of mosaic stadium. Crime here is different that i was used to back in my country. I think that as of today there has only been two or three homicides this year here in Regina (all three gang related in north central). All the crime that happens here is basically in north central. outside there is just normal petty crime you would find in any decent size city of the world.
