Guys

I got my PR visa last month only and expiry date is 29th September. I have bought tickets for 13th September and going to land in Toronto on 13th September evening through KLM.
This is first time , i am travelling with my wife and two kids ( younger kid is only 2.5 years ) for so long air distance. From Kuwait , total air time is around 18 hours.
With no friends and relatives in Canada , i am bit scared in doing landing, do have following questions in mind so appreciate if some seniors can advice me on following questions

1. I have to take "proof of landing" money with me . I believe for 4 persons , it is 21,000 CAD. I will be staying in Canada for 10 days , so first question is that whether so much amount of money i have to take with me , even if stay is only 10 days.

2. What is best way to carry so much money ? Offcourse i will be having some cash with me , let say 2000 CAD, but for rest 19,000 CAD what is best way to carry? Should i take TCs with me and take these TCs back to kuwait on my return( in case i decide to open bank account in canada at this stage)? Or bank drafts would be more benificial in this case?

3. Somebody told me that you have to tell them about list of household items which you are planning to take with you at time of final settlement? Now as i am going right now , only for 10 days and plan to settle in canada permenantly after 2 years , then still i have to submit that kind of list?

Pls advice

TCS WILL BE FINE.

NO YOU DON'T NEED NOW AS YOU ARE GOING FOR JUST 10 DAYS.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.

yes, you have to take a full list of GOODS TO FOLLOW at the time of landing. if u don't provide them with this list when you land, you will have to pay taxes on them when u bring them later with you. so, prepare a list, estimate the corresponding price of each item on the list, sum the total price of the list, and give it to the customs.

by the way, if you tell them that you will return back to kuwait, it is very likely they may not process your PR card. normally, if an immigrant is not permanently moving to canada, they will tell you to apply for a PR card when you move back to canada and have a permanent address. the problem is, if u leave canada without a PR card, you will have to apply for a TRAVEL DOCUMENT (at the canadian embassy responsible for your country) before you move back to canada.

so, my advice is, try to get a canadian address that you will give to the officer at the port of entry. i don't know how you are going to get an address... ask around or research. but try to get one.

Hello aix_tiger,
How are you going to get your PR card if you decided to stay only for 10 days?
Cheers,

Hi,

Yes, I agree you have to wait for your PR card before you leave Canada. Don't be nervous. I was in the same boat a week ago. I was not happy leaving home. At the plane and during landing, I had to ask myself all over and over again if I made the right decision of migrating with my family and 3 small kids having had a stable job and a comfortable life back home. Everybody I met here says "Of course you did make the right decision" and it's because of your kids. They're probably right! Canada is a great country, people are very friendly and opportunities are endless as long as you want to work! Cheers!
