was just wondering what my medical exam will be for my spousal sponsor permanent resident. It’s going to cost $495 CASH and I’m curious as to what they are going to do for that much money!? Plus..... I am healthy as far as I know and read that there is a waiver for spouses for ore existing medical conditions that are not a public threat. Kinda wondering what if they find a spot on kings (ex smoker) or something else non communicable..... probably worrying too much but this is so important to me and my husband both!!

Does that include blood work and x-ray as well?

That’s what I paid, plus tax.....which is expensive but I didn’t feel like travelling.

There is a place in Kitchener Ontario that does every thing for 195$ if that’s close to you?

I’m in North Carolina...... only two Doctors within 200 miles who are approved to do the exam and they obviously can charge whatever they want to charge...... cash up front at that!! I’m just wondering if there is ANYTHING short of a communicable disease that poses a public health risk that can fail me. The website says there is a waiver for spouses. I don’t have anything since I had my last regular physical a few months ago but didn’t get X-rays or pap this time.

No pap smear is done at the CIC medical.

I think its just a formality for family cases as they are excessive demand exempt

My wifes experience when she had he medical is that the clinics are basically coining it in for a very simple and quick check up, but has to be done and paid. Took around 20 minutes to fill out some forms etc and get picture taken and do a urine sample (not sure what its for but its just a quick dip stick test), then under 10 minutes actually being seen by the doctor who just checks a few vitals (weight, height, blood pressure, looked in ears and throat, listened to breathing a couple of times) , couple of questions if you listed any pre existing conditions and medications, bit of chit chat then see ya go pay the fee! and collect the paperwork to go do blood and x ray (she had to go to a different place to do this). Was about another hour getting blood work and x ray done.

The x ray is to check for TB and the blood test a check for HIV and Syphilis.

Basically as has been said above. You fill in some forms, wait, get weighed and measured. Blood and urine samples are taken, doctor pokes, prods, looks, listens, asks questions, you get an x-ray taken, and you're done.

Well.... I went for my medical all went great until I was asked about Hep B.... my first husband got it in 1980 and although I never got sick I tested positive and subsequently successfully fought it off and am immune.... but.... they asked them for additional Hep B and C blood tests that they generally do not do on spousal visa if not worker in health field. My husband now also tests positive for Hep B as well as C but the dr said the chance of me contracting C from him before he got cured from C 2 years ago are minuscule... so not TOO worried! But.... average case senio.... what if I also test positive for C.... but totally non symptomatic?? Since my husband was cured from it and is pos for it would that stop my chance of being passed?? I do not smoke.... never done an illegal drug in my life and do not drink at all.... I’m healthy as a horse as far as I know!! Little anxious here.......

It will not be a cause for a refusal, so don't worry about that. At worst, they may require you to have treatment.

Thanks! Have had liver panel tests done every year or two since 1981 and always normal showing no liver damage and full immunity to Hep B so not worried now... His Hep C we didn’t know about until we lived together in US for 5 months back in 2015 and he returned to Canada and was diagnosed. He completed treatment but our concern was if he had given it to me.....have been reading up on things so not too worried now
