Given the news about the 2 OWP being refused recently, I have some questions about my status

Yes correct, that is what I meant. On your OWP it says it doesn't authorize re-entry, hence you need a trv or any other type of visa. And the status is definitely a case basis, because mine came with a remark saying "it doesn't confer status" so it doesn't necessarily gives you status. As far as my lawyer explained to me, OWP are just for work, and they come attached to some sort of visa. In my case my visa expired before the work permit and I had to re-apply because of that remark.
I really don't know how the OWP based on the family reunification works, and or if that would provide you status or not.
Interesting as I didn't know about the possibility of such remark.

You can even apply or submit fully completed application even hour before your current status expires.

I was able to submit my previous TRV extension 1 hour before my status expired in March 2023. Got the approval 30 days after and was given a another full year of status.

Just follow the Eastern Standard Time.
Could you help me with my questions here:
  1. In the questionnarie on GCKey portal: can I put I am intending to stay temporarly, more than 6 months, or should I say less than 6 months. Does it even matter? At the moment I have put more than 6 months and still deemed eligible.
  2. Proof of financial support:
    a. Does it need to be only my bank account or can it be my sponsor/wife bank account too?
    b. Is it worth adding money I have in premium bonds too? I can access those money within 3 working days and the value does not fluctuate.
    c. Should I state that I live at my in-laws, so my cost of living is very low?
  3. Interestingly, they don’t ask me for proof of ties to home country, is it correct? Is it because I have stated I have a PR application in progress and I already live in Canada?
  4. Proof to leave Canada, what should I put here given that I have applied for OWP and PR? Do I even need to provide this proof?
  5. Anything to add into client information?
    a. A Letter of Explanation to say that I have applied for OWP and that I am applying for visitor record extension just in case OWP gets rejected and that I would like a 1 year visitor record just in case? Did you excplicitly ask for 1 year extension?
    b. Anything else to add here?
  6. Should I add proof that I have applied for PR and OWP, or it is not relevant for the purpose of visitor extension?
  7. Schedule 1 Application for visitor visa made outside of Canada - do I need to apply for it? Note that I already have an eTA which will last 5 year.

I have no idea, but I'd suggest the simple answer is to apply to extend your TRV stay using the usual process:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/extend-stay/apply.html

That way you definitely won't be out of status.
I am weighing whether to apply for visitor status extension or wait for the OWP decision to come through (and I will be on maintained status at that moment).
Some people said that if OWP is rejected, I will have 90 days to either leave the country without being considered 'overstayed' or apply for status restoration. Is that true that: if I leave within the 90 days without applying for status restoration, I won't be considered overstayed?

@Badge1 Can I apply for visitor status extension after my current visitor record expires but while I am on maintained status?

Have to say, I don't know specific answers - which is why I said I find it easier and simpler if applicants apply to extend their trv stay. It is perfectly clear that if you apply to extend and answer is not ready, you are in country in status.

Up to you.

@HTS_QC If I were you I will apply visitor extension / visitor record at the same time applying for the OWP. This ensures that you still have valid status in case the OWP is refused. As for your question, I would extend my visitor record before it expires - reason: "This ensures that you still have valid status in case the OWP is refused".

The moment that OWP is refused and your visitor record expired, you don't have status anymore and will be considered to have overstayed. A similar case happened to a friend of mine who did not extend his visitor record and relied on the maintained status granted by applying OWP. His temporary resident status expired on March 7, 2023. He received the OWP refusal on 29th of September 2023. The letter reiterated that his status expired on March 7, 2023 and was not eligible for restoration, advised to leave the country as soon as possible.

@armoured @Badge1 thank you both. I will apply for visitor status extension before my current status expires, just to be on the safe side.
Before landing in Canada as visitor, a few months ago, I had purchased a travel/medical insurance lasting 2 years. Is it a good idea to add it to the client information section, or the fact that it lasts 2 years could be seen negatively by the IRCC agent as that I intend to stay longer than 6 months as visitor?

This is consistent with the policy for refusals due to incomplete applications. What was the exact reason for the refusal of OWP?

I think they will not care - if you have a spousal sponsorship app, usually routinely approved.

What do you guys think of this letter of explanation to attach to my visitor status extension application? I feel like the last 2 paragraph could be omitted?

I am writing to request an extension of my visitor status in Canada.

I have applied for permanent residency in Canada via spousal sponsorship (application: 000) and I have subsequently submitted an application for a spousal open work permit (application: 000)

I understand the importance of maintaining valid immigration status in Canada while awaiting the final decision on the spousal open work permit.

I seek an extension of my visitor status. This extension would serve as a precautionary measure, providing me with the opportunity to remain in Canada legally in the event of an unforeseen rejection of my spousal open work permit application.

Having an extended visitor status would grant me the necessary time to address any concerns raised during the processing of the open work permit application and, if needed, to promptly submit a new open work permit application.

I understand the importance of compliance with Canadian immigration regulations, and I assure you of my commitment to adhere to all requirements and regulations during my stay in Canada. I sincerely hope for your understanding and favorable consideration of my request for an extension of my visitor status.

This would do. I only did 1 paragraph for my extension and I attached a letter from my partner mentioning the same.

I'd make the same comment, this can be much shorter.

"I have applied for PR via spousal sponsorship, and intend to remain in Canada until the sponsorship application is complete, and wish to ensure I continue to have valid immigration status until then." (If inland application, you're in fact required to.)

Anyway, you can phrase however you like, but I'd try to keep it as short as possible, they will appreciate your brevity.

Thank you all, I have used the help of ChatGPT to create the letter of explanation, and it was even longer than what I posted!
I will make it even shorter.
