So then why are there so many videos/threads/posts online stating that a ghost update on the GCKey is related to the application status changing from submitted to "updated" and not the date?
I am specifically speaking of the GCKEY ghost update, which everyone spoke of prior to the new tracker. What happens is that when you login, you will see that is have gone from "submitted" to "application updated". You take a look and nothing is changed. When you go back to home page it goes back to "submitted". THIS is a ghost update and you will get news shortly afterwards. It just happened to me with my application for visitor record. Recent applicants, who only know the new PR Tracker, are using the term Ghost Update when the new PR Tracker's date changes with no update. No one really knows what it means and there are varying beliefs about it, however the real ghost update term stems from the GCKEY account as explained above.
No I don't and I don't think it means anything, honestly. I know we are all desperate for some kind of sign, that's why I am here too since I have not heard any news on Feb 2021 application, but we are really only looking at date changes. lol it's the only hope we have.

I would say yes. The PR Tracker has more and up-to-date information in it, but IRCC uses the GCKey to send official correspondence to the primary applicant.

I agree. IRCC needs to do a better job of communicating to people, and recognizing that in many instances the families have waited a long time and are desperate for any possible update. Going months without a solid update is not acceptable, and they really can do a better job by adding more status update fields in the tracker. At least that is my opinion.
Lone update on pr tracker today with the mention "we received your info...". I submitted an email and webform to my vo on Oct.3rd. On that date, the PR tracker updated and I got another one today...

Yes we did the biometrics last year for a trv which was refused
Last update was Oct 7 - this is the longest in a while without an update...
