Get Passport back

Hi,

I have a question. My friend applied from within Canada for the Protected Person status. He has recieved the Protected Person status. His Indian passport was seized when applying for the status application. Now he needs to apply for his PR. His passport is expired by now.

We talked to a lawyer. He suggested to get the expired passport from CBSA and then apply for a new passport to Indian Embassy and then apply for the PR application.

You mentioned if we apply for passport renewal with the home country that might cause problem with CIC. But how? My friend is not going back o India, and he still is an Indian citizen, then how come this can cause any problem with CIC?

1- I entered in Canada illegally, after gone to Etobicoke office and claimed refugee
2- Gave them my original home passport, the took my passport and gave me a true copy of my passport ( stamped from IRCC
3- When I applied for protected status I wrote: IRCC keep my passport
4- I became protected and applied for Pr status
5- The same thing: applied and said: IRCC has my passport
6- Day I became PR , I gone to IRCC to Etobicoke and they gave me PR confirmation paper +home passport
6- I travelled to Cuba , USA etc for 5 years ( not to my country) but one day the passport expired. My PR card expired. I renewed my PR card with the true copy of IRCC that gave me , the day I claimed refugee + the copy of expired PR card + status paper + Driving license + OHIP card
7- I did renew my PR card successfully for 70 days.
8- To apply for PR card doesn’t need a valid passport, you are a protected person can’t go to your country can’t renew your passport.
10- I told you: Send an explanation that your passport is expired and as an refugee can’t renew and go to your country
11- Send the copies in colour of the pages of your passport. I’m telling you sincerely, I renewed my PR card expired from more than 1 month + expired passport

Can I ask you when did you go to Etobicoke office for getting back your home country passport?
Because I mailed them letter 4months ago to get back my passport,no update till now!!

1- Before , used to be: After 13 months of application to obtain PR status , letter was arriving by mail mail and applicant was going to Etobicoke ( by appointment) to pick up CoPR + passport back.
2-PR card arrived by mail to my address after
3- During your application process, passport can be expired
4- apply for Travel Document, don’t renew your passport
5- Passport expired, don’t worry. Apply to renew your PR card or apply to obtain PR status with a copy of passport that you had that day that claimed refugee in front of IRCC.
Fill the application and say: IRCC took my passport. Put inside the true copy that immigration gave you. Expired or not passport doesn’t affect your status & application.
6- I do remember that after interview (I became protected) Immediately after receiving the letter had been applied for PR status, without passport. Everything was successfully completed
7- Renewed the PR card after 5 years, applied with expired passport, copies of expired passport & Driving Licence & OHIP. Write a letter to IRCC tell the situation
8- If you have to travel, apply for travel document( it needs an not expired PR card).

I’m telling the truth, because somebody told that travelling to third countries put in risk the status. My experience:
1-I travelled to Italy & Cuba & USA and after 5 years PR card expired
2- When I renewed it, IRCC never complained & renewed my Pr card.
3- My home passport is expired and I’m not going to renew it. I applied for travel Document
4- I did not travelled to my country-
Only third countries
5- my Canadian citizenship is in process looks good, expecting to ceremony ( still not arrived after 1 year distance from citizenship test).
6- it’s up to you! You can apply for Travel Document to feel more comfortable

Yes,travel to third country.
So you have traveled to those 3 countries with home country passport,right?
The only country that I have a plan to travel is Turkey. If I have my home country passport,no need for visa to enter to Turkey but with travel document I have to apply for visa.

Can anyone please inform me in detail of the process to get our Passports back? Hello, I will be applying for citizenship next month but I still couldn't get my passport back. I sent a letter to Hamilton office last month but no news yet. Is there anyone who can get a response from Hamilton office? I don't have all the copies of my home passport so I think I need it returned for my citizenship application. I was reading all the posts regarding getting back the seized passport and was very helpful.

Today, we went me and my husband to CBSA office to get our seized passports back for our family, when we arrived to reception we gave them our PR Cards, they checked in the system and they told us that they have only my husband's file however me and my 2 boys are with IRCC which is in Etobicoke office . It's a weird situation because all the family should be together in one place.
So the receptionist told us that one officer will contact us back once they prepare my husband's document and we can go somewhere to have coffee until everything is ready. After half an hour the document was ready and we went and got it.

After that, we went to Etobicoke office in 5343 Dundas street , they were open but not accepting walk in and they asked us to send a letter by mail to their address with the list of the requested Original Identity documents and the reason of your request, including an explanation that you became a permanent resident without your documents and they will reply back to me with an appointment in order to get them back.

It's really a big headache and I don't know why since i am there already and they are open why they couldn't give it to me and do the same easy process like CBSA Office.
I feel that they are complicating things and they don't want to make things easy for people

I went to cbsa they gave me a paper which says contact ircc etobicoke
