Both childbirth and marriage are free. If immigration is involved, there are a series of problems! This is a matter of two levels. It is your right and freedom to have children, get married, and raise children! But designing immigration guarantees is another issue!

Interesting ruling, however it could still be appealed to the SCC if IAD chooses to do so. Assuming that doesn’t happen, they would still have to have their application reviewed by another officer, and no guarantee the results wouldn’t be the same.
In your friends case, if he doesn’t marry or qualify for common law, it’s going to take a lot of effort to gain proof of conjugal. Not something that would happen quickly.
You are right, what do you think after getting Citizenship it will easier for him ?

In this case, then ask the birth mother to give up the child and only sponsor the child to Canada.
The birth mother in this case is not a true spouse and should not be sponsored. Sponsoring her as a spouse would be committing misrepresentation.
If you/your friend cannot bring up a child on his own, then do not have a child. Or get married with a true gay spouse and adopt a child instead.
