Hi guys, a whole month after our IME we got a furtherance letter requiring further medical info for our son. We went back to the panel physician who did our exam and were told our son needs to get tested for TB and needs to do a follow-up x ray in November.

The panel physician told us they'd be scheduling an appointment with a pediatrician who'd reach out to us, it's been weeks since that happened. We have tried emailing and calling them and ended up frustrating the customer service team at the clinic. We've tried finding other panel physicians in Mississauga or e-medical enabled pediatricians to no avail.

Can anyone tell us if this would affect the processing for our claim? Although, we did recently receive a notice to return for biometrics scheduled for next week.

I also wanted to ask - the letter we received is titled "notice to return for interview" but the document is titled "notice of biometric appointment", our lawyer confirmed it is not an interview but I am still confused. Are the two different? Will we be called again after submitting our biometrics and ID?

It's been disheartening to see no response from the panel physicians' so I'd greatly appreciate any insight from anyone who has experienced the same or knows about it.

Its worth waiting instead of frustrating the clinic with several phone calls and emails. the panel is not readily available anytime one wants to get attended. for the second question, first one is called eligibility interview, and they will take biometric same day as they verify documents/IDs. Second one will be the hearing. With recent backlog and increasing in refugee claims double this year, expect there'll be delays, dont be disheartening..the whole refugee claim processes needs patience.

Thankyou for your response.

The only reason we reached out to the clinic was because it went beyond the time they mentioned it would take for a pediatrician to reach out to us.

Trying to be patient haha but it has gotten tiresome waiting for some development.

Will they be asking us any questions during the eligibility interview?

Lots of people who wait 5+ years in the asylum process after their initial application is refused. The process is slow. Even though efficiencies have been found the current volume of applicants still leads to long wait times for a left majority of applicants. There are some lucky applicants from certain countries that are being processed quite quickly due to new programs bit they are the minority. Many are told in their home countries that this is a fast process and that family reunification with spouses and children under 22 who are unmarried will not take long which is incorrect. The system is extremely overwhelmed. Sadly shelters are full so people are sleeping on the streets and most municipalities are trying to solve deficit issues so don’t have extra money to keep providing more temporary housing. Canada continues to approve TRVs from applicants with very high likelihood of claiming asylum, with minimal funds and no family in Canada. This change mid year to try and tackle application backlogs make no sense especially as winter is coming and being homeless in the winter is much more difficult and dangerous.

Typically applications are not finalized if TB has been identified and requires treatment before coming to Canada. Since your family is already in Canada your child will have to do TB testing including a chest x-ray. If any irregularities are found on the chest x-ray a sputum culture will have to be done followed by a repeat chest X-ray after 2-3 months. If nothing shows up on the sputum culture and the chest x-ray looks the same or better than the first no more tests or treatment is necessary. If your child has TB and will have to undergo longterm antibiotic therapy which is not pleasant and is a large time commitment for families. They would be closely monitored to make sure they were following the treatment protocol. Typically you must have finished your treatment and be TB free to get PR.
