Hi all

I sent my passports whole family via VFS to NDVO 2 days back when can i expect them back also are BC over
i have a question in my mind what if i land first as principal applicant and after few days come back to india do i need to carry same settlement funds during my second visit to Canada as PR.
PLs reply

Hi Guggu,

Best of my knowledge.. Once you have PR card you don't need to show any settlement fund..

But yes.. during your second visit, your dependent won't be having a PR card with them.. so it'll be a good idea to carry required cash or travellers cheque (any other mode of cash) to satisfy the immigration officer if they ask.. though Possibilities are very less.

please share your timeline.

No, you do not have to. But now a days it is taking upto 3 months for ppl to get PR card. So if you leave Canada before that, you will need to get travel documents from them to go back again. The initial Visa becomes invalid the moment you land first time.

IDK...You need to call CIC's call center number: +1 613 944 4000 >>> then press 1 1 1 1 1 3>>your call will be transferred to an agent>>provide your details (UCI, First name etc)>>> ask him about your VO>>after this just raise Case specific enquiry to your concerned VO by visiting their website and asking about the status of your file.

Hope it helps.

Raise a CSE with NDVO. They will either answer or redirect you to right Visa Office.

Congratulations on becoming Canadian Permanent resident officially. You Rock... Many thanks for getting this information and sharing it with us. You clarified an important doubt in many people's mind.

Please share the details on things like experience at port of entry, any possible questions/issues that we should be ready to answer. And, also as you settle down, please share process to apply for insurance, accommodation and agreements, telephone/mobile connection and any other useful tips.

Thanks again. Wish you a great time in Canada! I would like to talk to you if you don't mind, I am not sure how to send a personal message using this forum, if you know could you please leave your contact details in a personal message.

About landing
they will not ask much questions other than proof of funds. You must declare any form of money which is more than $10000. It includes paper, cheques, travel cards, bonds etc.
beside this be thorough about the details you provided on your application.

accommodation and agreement
better get a basement or an apartment. Will cost between 600-1200 $according to the area.
better get a short-term agreement. Never go for one year agreement which will stop you from moving and getting a better job anywhere else.
you can even get accommodation without agreement.
checkout these sites for accommodation used vehicles etc
craiglist.ca, kijiji.ca, autotrader.ca etc.

Wifi and phone

It's piece of cake in Canada. Go to any outlet and tell them what you need. Indian passport is enough as a document proof.

Insurance

Medical insurance is not usually available for the first 3 months.
so before boarding on a flight better get a private medical insurance for 3 months.
or in need of medical emergency it will be disaster in terms of money.

Getting a driving licence
Indian license is valid for 3/4 months for the immigrants to drive. Need to pass learners test for this. Not so easy to pass. Will have to study. But I wouldn't recommend you driving in Canada without taking a few hours of driving lessons because rules and regulations are a bit difficult to understand.
if your license in India is more than 2 years old you will be allowed to go for road test anytime you can find an appointment. If it's not that old you will have to wait for one year to go for road test. Road test is extremely tough. 45 minutes one on one.

Car
in Canada cars are mostly automatic. 150 k km are considered are low kilometers.
Toyotas and Hondas will go 300k kms without any issues.
for 5000-6000 $ you can find decent corollas and civics.

In Canada if you want to ask anything to anyone, say that you have a question not adoubt.
petrol is called as gas. Bus ticket is bus fare.
always use can I or may I if you want to ask anything.
and never mention people by their clan or race.
