They do check linked in profiles not only the candidates but sometimes the profile of person provided the reference as well.
I remember one candidate from wvo got fairness letter because when they checked the linked in profile of person provided reference letter they found thst the profile was not saying about the time he worked for the company. Actually he didn't update his profile but candidate got in to trouble.
these days Canadian employers are also checking fb profiles as well to find the applicsnt's attitude and character.
