yeah i recently got an interview request from a rideshare company. they sent the interview format in an email. 3 rounds of leetcode style plus another two rounds of behavioral plus a final VP discussion. I told them i dont do leetcode style interviews and withdrew. great pay though.
Typical google style. Very common.

I did this one : https://neetcode.io/practice . Very useful.

Trouble that happens is, if you do these, your thinking shifts to this kind of problems. Then you at times give a more optimized solution than interview is expecting. Leaving FAANG, not many expects this kind of behaviour. I mean, a certain company had their mouths dropped to floor when I simply used few properties of binary search (actually, BST) to my advantage. Interview is more about impedance matching between interviewer and interviewee.

It's very relevant. You just don't want to read what I wrote.

No one will pay any recent immigrant 160K. That's it. He will find a job from abroad (not now, obv) but not as 100K SWE and def. not 160K dev. Why not? Because there are 500K moving to Canada which gives employers an opportunity to find someone who is cheaper. Maybe not as good but def. cheaper.

People leave to Canada for dumbest reasons. I talked to a colleague of mine (he is from India) about why he came to Canada. You know what he said? "It's cultural. Everyone told me that the West is so much better and I was pressured in trying to leave".
So companies are willing to lower their standards to just hire someone cheaper? What if that person messes up everything with bad code or just fails at the job after a few months? Companies are willing to risk that?

Yes they are willing to go to any length to save their 50 cents.

It depends. I have taken interviews for my employer. We interview about 150 folks to find one guy who could even pass phone screening. So that 500K coming is usually not much help to us as most are not that well prepared. Actually recent grads from Canadian universities perform much better.

I will say companies always want to save money. They are businesses first. That being said, its usually 50 cents saved over all.

If that is true issue could be in your job description and person sorting through resumes as well. Don't put it all on candidates if the recruiter is not doing their job well.

Could be. My employer never specifies any tech. Actually, folks are never recruited specific to any tech anyways. Most of our "tech" is in-house. That means most JDs specify what the position is all about while requirements are just flat: CS/Math/EE/Eng. Degree or 3 years work exp. Knowledge of one main stream programming language. Problem Solving. Algo, DS. Design.
Thats all. Even the interview process is never anything specific to any tech.

That sounds very open ended but even with that,150 interviews just to screen is tad too much. The recruitment process could be much more efficient than that.

I would say in this case your colleague is the dumb one if he let other influence a major life decision like that. I mean he is a grown adult, and his logic is I moved because others told me to. Are these kinds of people really making 200K kind of money with zero critical thinking applied to their own life. Just wow!

In this day and age no one has any excuse of not researching enough. If one spends even 30 minutes on the web, they can find out all the information they want with respect to parameters which they value. In any case, may be the context of your conversation was different and maybe he just said that because he didn't want to have a long discussion. But if that is the real reason he moved then no words.

Exactly that. Check out Boeing and Indian software engineering:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-06-28/boeing-s-737-max-software-outsourced-to-9-an-hour-engineers . It's behind the paywall but if you google, you will be able to crack it.

If Boeing did that what makes you think that companies where a cost of mistake is not that high don't go the same route? Plus, most of the jobs are pretty easy. When the last time your bank (TD, CIBC) rolled out anything significant? When the last time Walmart did the same? What about Manulife? What about 99% of other service providers in Canada? This is where most of the newcomers will be applying. Not FAANG, Uber or other tech. companies.

Maybe. Who knows. I don't know why majority of people move to Canada. Really don't. I understand Russians; it's dangerous to live in Russia right now if you are a man. I understand Ukrainians. I understand Iranians. I understand if one doesn't have basic necessities and quality of life is just terrible; it makes sense to move. Why would you move if you have a decent job, your family is near, your friends, you have a roof over the head.

Why don't you give them a call or check the website? Took me roughly 30 seconds to find the link and get the form to book an appoitment.

I guess you are at FAANG. This sounds like a typical Amazon interview.
