See if you can take the greyhound to the borders or someone on kijiji who is wiling to drive you down for some cash. I suggest renting a car for the day drive there and back it's about 4 hours or less each way. I live in Calgary, maybe wait for me to get my visa and we can go together lol

Does anyone have any experience with getting your medical done while on a low-carb diet? If so, are there any problems with that or should one just advise the Dr. of the fact?

Well I got my medical done today.I'm not on low carb diet though. But to my experience today I don't think so It will be problem.Medical was pretty straight forward.Chest X-ray,blood test,Blood pressure check, eye exam,Height & weight .Then doc just checked ears, eyes and asked have ever had any surgery,TB or have heart disease .That was pretty much everything.

I don't think they're looking for the nitty gritty details of a person's health. I too was worried that my health was not "perfect" because a few months back I had fallen really badly on my knee, injured it and since that time was not able to go to the gym regularly.

I would second the post above. My exam was really straightforward too, and according to the doctor only someone who is waaayyy out of whack would have a problem. Even slight blood pressure, diabetes etc. (as long as it is routinely manageable) would not typically be an issue. They are essentially looking for people who would cause an unreasonably high burden on their health system.

So the bottom line is, I don't think the low carb diet will have any effect at all.

Sounds pretty straight forward. Thanks for the reply. ;D

Yeah, I saw in another post on another thread that someone didn't even know they were diabetic and found out by way of the medical...even with blood sugar over 200 they were still accepted. They just had to do some additional tests. I think you are right...it shouldn't be a problem. I'll just let the Dr. know anyways just in case so that there are no issues.

Thanks for sharing! ;D

Hi friends,

Does anyone know that how long it will take for the permanent resident card to be proceeded and mailed to me after landing?

I am going back to China from mid August to late September. I wondered when I should land.

I know there is "processing time" on CIC website, is it the standardized time or average time?

I hope you will get medical soon. You can also post the same question to PhD forum for more similar cases for other PhD stream.

Because
in many cases PhD stream application processing seems slow than other NOCs

We were like 7/8 guys having the same problem. Some of us received PPR, others not yet. I advise you to send to CPC-Ottawa to your officer an inquiry email. Also try to call CIC call center to check the status of this DM. You will hear the normal answer "still within 18 months". Keep calling until someone will actually check your file.

Good luck ya basha :)

I sent e-mail from one week and no reply
and I called them many times until one lady told me that my file is fine and no problems until now and I should wait for e-mail and she refused to tell me if my case positive or negative

Hello everyone

I am not sure if there is already a whatsapp group for pre and post landing discussions. Let me know if there is already one.

If there isn't, then let's create one. PM me and I'll add you to the group.

Keep trying ... use MagicJack app .. it is free. Or if you have Vodafone line, there is a service called "101" for calling North America with local rates (but it works after 11:00pm Local Time).
