Hello all, I have a query .....my wife is keen on learning driving so that she could drive in Canada if and when we could afford a car....my question is does she needs to take basic classes from here in INDIA and obtain a license or is it better that she starts from the base in CANADA itself.....will her getting a fresh license be of any help there to get G,G1 or G2 ....she will be an absolute new learner....what are your advise on this....

I have an Iphone GSM here is it of any use in Canada or should I get a CDMA phone from here.

The most important question does PPR mail comes any time in the day or is only during working hours of NDVO.

Hi friends..need some info

I am the main applicant and got visa for myself, wife and my son.Is it acceptable if I visit Canada alone and apply for PR card for myself and my dependents on their behalf

Guys .. can you please clarify me on questions related to POF while landing.

We are three and I have to show CAD 19000 as POF. My doubts are

1) First I am travelling to Canada alone without my family. Do I have to show total CAD 19000 or less ? If it is total CAD 19000, do I have to show POF again while my family (Spouse and Kid) land in Canada ?

2) I am planning to carry only CAD 5000 by cash while landing and rest CAD 14000 through Bank FD certificate in Indian rupees. Is this fine ? or do I have to show CAD 14000 also in Canadian dollars ?

Please clarify

Thanks in advance !

Pandu

pandu, you will have to show entire pof even if you are traveling alone initially. Later when your spouse joins you, pof need not be shown again.

Hello, you asked 3 questions. I will try and answer the first one.

Assuming that she has never driven in her life, I would recommend her learning the basics in India. Stick shifts for most cars in US / Canada are almost nowhere to be seen, so moving from stick to auto mode will be easier. As for the basics, they are the same - steer, accelerate, brake.

India has right-hand drive and US / Canada has left hand drive. Once she gets a handle on the basics in India, it will be easier (& cheaper) for her to re-learn in Canada. As for a valid license, regardless of whether she gets it in India or not, she will still need to get a new basic one in Canada. I believe the minimum requirement is at least 2 years on your existing license in present country.

Here is some material to get you started: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/handbook/index.shtml
