I sent this message in response to a query regarding 2174 jobs in Canada. Figured it would benefit all (as most of the points are valid for non-2174 skills as well).

A few points to note about the 2174 job market in Canada :

1. Most of the jobs are concentrated in the Toronto area, followed by Vancouver. There are IT jobs in every major city (but don't expect IT services/product companies to have offices in many cities like they do in US). You will get hired directly by client companies, not service companies.
2. A lot of people (especially newcomers to Canada) will get contract jobs as opposed to full-time. Unlike India, contract jobs are preferred by people as they pay much higher (e.g. $30+ for regular, $50+ for contract) so you can actually save more money even if you have a break between contracts
3. Consultants (in Canada) help you find jobs. Generally they don't charge you anything, they get commission directly from the company that hires you. e.g. a friend got a contract job through consultant that pays him $50 an hour, and consultant gets $50 as well. So if he had got the job without consultant, he could've been making upto $100 an hour (no kidding).
4. A lot of jobs are not advertised, they are only found through references. So start networking in your company/friends circle, if you know someone in an IT company they can refer you and highly increase your chances of getting selected.
5. Communication skills are of prime importance. When employers are selecting candidates, their primary concern wrt immigrants is whether you will be able to gel well within the work environment. To a larger extent, being a good communicator (in English) is valued higher than being a Subject Matter Expert on a technology.

Good luck, everyone!

Hi,
I have a situation where I have received PPR on feb 25th with 30 days deadline, but, I am on critical business US travel from jan till april 1st week.
I have raised a case specific inquiry on feb 25th itself , but no reply as such till now.
I tried calling them but if it is immigration related queries they dnt even go to customer care.
Give me some tips on how to handle this situation.

Thx,
Chethan

I am from Nepal...though I received PP request on 2nd March...I was able to dispatch my PP from VFS on 9th march only...due to some personal issues.

As on today morning 12th March My VFS status shows "Visa application, tracking ID No.............. is being processed at the Canada Visa Office, NEW DELHI".

Hopefully yours is also the same status by now,I think the delay might have been due to Turkish arline's situation. No need to worry ...

How do i track the VFS update?? Do they provide the tracking details?? Which website do i check those??

I am pretty sure you will be requested FBI report. It took almost 4 month to get a result for my case.
So I recommend you to apply asap.
But I always thought that Canadian PCC [RCMP Report] is never required. I have lived in Canada for nearly 5 years. Does that mean that I would have to produce PCC now? I remember that while filling the form CIC advises to get PCC from all countries except Canada..how did this change now?

Diplo...you have anything to say on this?

Hello friends,

Congratulations those who already got MR, PPR request.

I have few questions:

1. How would I know that my file has been transferred to local visa office?
2. I have sent PCC with my application, do I need to submit PPC again with MR?

Tank you.

Dear all friends here,

First I'd like to say sorry and thanks to you guys.
I have been a silent reader for over 1 year due to private reason.
I finally got a Confirmation of Permanent Resident.
My case is a bit unique so want to share with you.

Here is my time line. My application was handled by Manila Visa office.

- Application arrived: May 7
- PER: July 28
- Medical, RPRF and FBI Clearance Request: Aug 18
- Due to FBI System change issue - early December (took about 3 and 1/2 month to receive)
- Requested to fill the from about 6-7 months history from May to present (overseas travel etc.): submitted in 1-2 days.
- Then suddenly asked wife's Canadian Police Clearance: submitted at early Feb.(took about 40 days due to first mail missing, usually take 10 days)
- Decision Made Changed, mid of Feb (They didn't ask information update)
- Finally received Confirmation of Permanent Resident. (early March)
- Plan to land in June.

I wish all the best to all applicants here.
THANKS!
-Spartans (Go Green!)
Congrats Spartans and +1 to you all the best for your Future.
:) :) :)

It is true that on several occasions CIC has asked FSW-2014 inland applicants to present RCMP PCCs if they resided in Canada for over 6 months. The fact is ordinary RCMP screening is done by running the name through the database to see if there are reportable traces (it takes three days based on GCMS notes), and in order to collect the PCC you have to submit fingerprints. To conclude, IMM 7000 states that you should not sumbit Canadian PCC, but nevertheless, according to practice, it might be required on later stages if they are inclined to have the fingerprints of the applicant scanned.
