MR done today.... waiting for the PCC and other good things to happen!!!!

One important questions

my passpost will expire mid of the next year, can I ask the VO to let me update my passport so that I receive my visa on a new passport (with longer period of validity)?

My friend does not have a birth certificate. Also, his surname is blank on passport. He has entered his full name under Family name and Not applicable under given name after being advised by Frasiercrane. However, to be on a safer side he also wants to provide an affidavit for the same. If someone has an affidavit for birth certificate and for name, please forward it..
Can he provide all the information on the same affidavit?

For BC, he/she can use Xth passing certificate if he has both the parents name registered on it.
Also, should submit an affidavit stating his DOB and Parents name.

Did the VO also ask for your passport along with MR and PCC? If not then you should have enough time to update your passport before you get a passport request. So you might not even have to ask the VO for anything. If they have asked for you passport along with MR then can you get the passport made within the deadline that you were given to submit your MR and PCC?

The Marriage Certificate captures her old name (not my Surname)

New passport bears the record of old passport via file number, so no issues there.
If shes dependant applicant, then you can wait for PER, and then inform respective VO with CSE and get her passport details updated before receiving MR.
I don't think you need to send forms again. Maybe others can add more on this.

No need to provide affidavit as such. Its the same case as my wife as she also doesnt have surname in passport.

Whatever name is mentioned in the passport (other than blank surname) mention that under the Family Name and Not applicable under given name.

Do you get the sense whether they have conducted the Background checks before the MR or they keep keep on doing Background checks till they give the visa ?

I can sense the agony but MR will be sent after satisfactory completion of document verification, checks etc... which is taking the time in your case. How diverse is your work history, edu, location etc ?

Below is a NDVO response posted earlier by a member :
