Will share my story - I had to go to my university twice although I had a college principal attested sealed transcript from years ago (I had gotten that at the time I applied for my masters degree). First time I paid fee at university, which was like INR 500 per page of attestation for 4 years of mark sheet in a sealed envelope. I got 2 sets made, one for future use just in case. Then after 7 days of follow up it was still stuck in the university office because of some payment miscalculation from their end so I paid a little more and finally after 2 trips to the town of my college I got the transcript.
These days every university has a website so I recommend calling up registrar's office or controller of examination's office before you travel far (in case your university is far from your current place of residence). As some senior suggested do take original mark sheets and photo copies with you when you go to the university.
