True - persistence should be there and luck and blessings might follow! :)

I take it you are on H1B now - does one's H1B get affected now that you start your Canadian PR - I would hope it won't - any knowledge on this bro?
Bro,

If we leave US and stay in Canada for PR, the employer would have the option to revoke the H1B or to kept it inactive , in the second scenario the remaining H1B period out of 6 years would still be left for future use as it is counted for the period in US soil. Even if the employer revokes one can still use it, though he/she has to find another employer to transfer the H1B and the person would not fall under the Fiscal new Quota and his remaining years on h1B would be left.
I guess it is a good backup for a lot of IT applicants, since there is a huge wage gap between US and Canada in the IT sector. Further for applicants who want to pursue working in US, TN1 visa is a good option but it is not a dual purpose visa like H1B and they can still use the H1B for a GC in US in case.

I landed today at Vancouver airport.

Hi guys,

My 3 hours flight from Los Angeles arrived at Vancouver airport at 1:00pm. Customs form was provided to passanger in the flight which I filled in before reaching the Visitors verification window. It was not a long queue so I reached the window after a short wait in the queue.
Officer at the window asked me for Passport and customs form. He saw my immigration visa and directed me to go to the new immigrats/students section. This was a 2-3 minutes process.

I was the only one there for new immigrant formalities. The officer at the counter greeted me and asked for my passport and COPR. He then looked for me record on his computer and gave me welcome kit and then directed me to go to another window where there were already around 25-30 students from China waiting for them to be called for verification. This took 10 minutes.

For verification window, it took me 15-20 minutes for my turn. Officer asked me for my passport and COPR. He then started looking at my immigration file on his computer which he said was very large. He also mentioned about some extra documentation for my medicals in his system because of my invalid IME and also about my POF transactions clarifications which was there on the file. He asked me my address in Canada and if this is my short trip to which I said yes. I gave my friend,s address to which he said that my PR card will be sent to the same address within 6 weeks and told me to visit Service Canada to apply for SIN (SIN is not done at the airport). After going through my file, he stamped the COPR and said all is done and I should proceed to Cashier counter because I had over 10,000 dollars which I had already mentioned on my customs form.

Then, I told him (I proactively asked this; Thanks to the info shared by Qorax on 2013 forum) I have Goods Accompanying and Goods to follow forms which I want him to stamp at which he saw the papers and said he will be able to take care of this. I had also mentioned my car which I wanted to move from USA. He was not sure if car can be mentioned on this (B4) form so he checked with other official and striked through the car and said that vehicles are taken care at the border. He signed, stamped and mentioned the confirmation number on the form, kept one and gave another copy to me. This took around 20-25 minutes.

After this, I went to the cashier window where I told the person how much amount I was carrying in cash and cashier check(I had a few USD, CAD and bigger amount as cashier check), the currency. I was also asked to show the cashier check. He filled in a form and mentioned the amounts on that and signed my customs form. This took 5 minutes as there was nobody else before me at this window.

I went towards airport exit where the customs form was collected before exit so overall a very simple process. I have been to Vancouver earlier as a visitor but this time the sky looked more beautiful, weather more pleasant, air so musical, people more charming, myself more relaxed. I became a Permanent Resident afterall and that too in exactly 4 months. :) ;)

I am going to be in Vancouver for a week during which I will open bank account, apply for SIN and will go back to USA. My current employer may transfer me to Canada or I will search for a new job myself and move here permanently. This time I came only with a carry on bag and will move rest of my stuff later when I come back with a job offer. This is completely legal to come once to complete landing formalities and come back later to settle so have no doubts. Good luck to all. :)

I referred to the following information posted by Qorax and reposted by islandbabe which is very useful pre-landing knowledge:

Dear Century
Do CIC accept the entire Provident fund as settlement fund or a part of it ,however I can withdraw the entire amount if I quit the job and do not intend to do job again.
Again I deposit money in my account would CIC consider recent deposit as settlement fund.
Thanks

In one of my post Oscar wrote that he is not sure about insurance policies if these are considered as settlement fund, and I will have to show evidence. Now if I have got certificate from insuranace company in which it is mentioned that cash surrender value of this policy is Rs.xxxxxx and it may change at the time of surrender subject to market condition. Would CIC will accept as an evidence of liquid fund.
Thanks for your support.

Hi,

I just received my passport back from Ottawa. Thank you each and every one from this blog for making this happen and god bless you all !!

A quick note to everybody based on my experience, the guys at CIC are really professional and considerate. I never expected to get this done within 4 months. For guys who are receiving Passport request from USA, CIC gives the option to send a prepaid shipping label of Xpresspost, however the postal service do not accept a Credit card of US billing address for paying the courier charges. I had called Xpresspost and they asked for a Credit card with Canadian billing address. I had to send my Courier without prepaid envelope and was a little worried, but I guess its not that bad, received my passport back in 10 days of receipt of CIO-Ottawa, which they had sent me back by regular mail.

Good Luck everybody !!

Point 1 couldn't get which date you are mentioning and from whom I have to get the letter. I got an EPF statement from online mentioning employee contribution and employer contribution . Please elaborate.

As times goes by, surrender value generally increases. So I think, it should be acceptable. Note that, stock, whose price fluctuates, is acceptable is acceptable by CIC.

There are situation where employer contribute equal to employee. However, policy could be like this: if employee stay less than 3 year, he will get 0 amount from employer contribution, 4 year- 50% of employer contribution, and 5 year - 100% of employer contribution.

So, HR/Finance could issue a letter that you are working for X years and now entitle X amount to receive in case your resign.

Thanks - I believe you are saying that even after one has left the H1B employer the balance from 6 years will remain active for life even if one moves out of USA to abroad. Just need to find a new sponsor employer to resume back on H1B - and this is in line with what I knew, so thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I didn't quite understand the TN1 visa dual intent part but I believe TN1 is for Canadians to work in USA but maybe you meant it is strictly for work and cannot be used to apply GC while on TN1, so that ways not an immigration supporting visa like H1B can be (so that dual part I guess). I think I got it finally!!! LOL

Thanks and a definite +1 to you for all the knowledge sharing! :)
This type of strategy is hampering chances of real aspirants. It can be any country (US or Canada or Australia) with the slot occupied by NOT letting desperate people who wish to land for job or better prospects..
