Hello Guys,

I'm a 12 May applicant under NOC 2131. Up to know I don't have any news from the CIO. My CC is not yet charged. I cross-checked with my bank and they assured my CC is Ok and the payment could be withdrawn automatically. I wrote an email to them on 06'th of August to request the status of my application but no response till now. I'm getting worried and I don't know what to think right now. My self calculated points are 71 and I'm sure the application file is complete as I had the chance to compare it with the last year file (my last year file was returned due to cap fill. They had opened and checked the submitted file and its seemed to be all OK).
Please give me some hope.... :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Hello guys,
I have sent my application and CIC received it on 10th of June 2014. I applied for skilled worker under the NOC code 2173. Since then I didn't receive anything.. No notification, no additional request for documentation, no refusal or acceptance.. Is this normal? Should I have received some news by now?

Also I wonder how they manage the numbers in "Applications we will accept" table. Do they count you in after the first review of your application?

Thanks for your help in advance..
You wont be able to hear back anything until October. You can expect your CC/DD charged in mid of October.

So if I'm not mistaken, CIC could only process the applications from 1st of May - 14th of May until now??? OMG!
I wonder if I will be able to get in the cap now??
It's funny that my husband thought that we were sending it in advance.. :D
There was a heavy load at CIC till 14th May. Now onwards once we start moving with 15th May you will find faster moving dates.

Regarding, you would be able to be within the cap, it depends on your NOC.

our NOC is 2173.
so is there any chance that we can be in CAPs for 2173?
because we can only apply after her IELTS result
well, 2173 is the 3rd most HOT NOC.
But why not, find nearest possible date in whole India, and go for it, fight it like a Singham.
All the best my dear friend.

The wealth of Canadians has shown a promising increase, with their average net worth up nearly eight per cent on higher real estate and investment values.

According to data found by Environics Analytics, the average net worth per household in Canada grew by 7.7 per cent to $442,130. The report includes 121 financial and investment statistics from a number of sources, including the bank of Canada and statistics Canada.

The data also showed that consumer debt remained the same, while real estate increased over six percent since 2012. Additionally, the data indicated that stock portfolios are growing, and savings are on the rise nationwide.

The data shows that Canadians have made a promising comeback from the 2008 economic crisis, Environics said.

Government of Canada Considers Removing ‘Citizenship by Birth’ Provision

August, 2014

A report prepared for former Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Jason Kenney, reveals that immigration officials are reviewing Canada’s long-standing policy of conferring citizenship on all people born in Canada. Currently, Canada and the United States are the only countries holding this provision.

The 2013 report, obtained under an access to information request and marked “secret”, found fewer than 500 reported cases (or 0.14 per cent of total births) per year in which a child was born in Canada with neither parent a citizen or permanent resident.

The Issue

As it stands, anybody born in Canada — save some highly specific cases relating to those working in diplomatic services — attains Canadian citizenship as a birthright, regardless of his or her parents’ status in the country. This has been the case since 1947. The office of Citizenship and Immigration, now under the stewardship of Minister Chris Alexander, confirmed that the government is still reviewing the policy pertaining to perceived “birth tourism”, whereby non-nationals are believed to enter Canada with the intention of having their child born in the country so that the child can attain automatic Canadian citizenship. Once the child reaches 18 years of age, he or she may become eligible to sponsor his or her parents for permanent residency.

“Restricting birth on soil to those who have a permanent status in Canada would remove the incentive for foreign nationals coming to Canada to give birth to their children and gain access to Canada and the benefits of Canadian citizenship, thereby preserving the value of citizenship,” states the report.

If the citizenship by birth provision is tightened, one issue that would need to be addressed by the government is the status of children born “stateless”. That is to say, if a child is born on Canadian soil to foreign-national parents and that child is unable to acquire citizenship by descent from a country other than Canada because of the nationality laws in the parents’ country of citizenship. Such an event is likely to be rare, but as a signatory to the 1961 United Nations Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, Canada is obliged to reduce the incidence of statelessness by conferring citizenship on individuals born in Canada who would otherwise be stateless.

The birthright provision was left intact when the government of Canada overhauled the Canadian Citizenship Act earlier this year. The changes implemented at that time included a lengthening of the time a permanent resident must wait until he or she can apply for citizenship. If the birthright provision is altered, it would mean a further tightening of the rules on who may become a Canadian citizen.

The Reaction

Given the limited number of cases and a range of other issues requiring attention within Minister Alexander’s Citizenship and Immigration portfolio, critics have suggested that the current government’s policy considerations are based more on ideology than evidence and objectivity. “An impartial observer would conclude that the evidence supports no need for change, given the small number of cases. Yet the recommendation supports the government’s public rhetoric and anecdotes on the need for change,” said Andrew Griffith, a former director general for citizenship and multiculturalism at Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

“Citizenship is something we hold dear, and citizenship by birth is part of the Canadian identity,” said Attorney David Cohen. “The proposed changes make an assumption that in all cases of children being born in Canada to parents who are not residents or citizens of Canada, the parents entered Canada solely to take advantage of our birthright provision. This is unfair on students and temporary foreign workers who entered Canada with the aim of gaining academic or work experience and contributing to the Canadian economy and social life, but who happened to become pregnant while in Canada for legitimate reasons. It would be collective punishment, which goes against the spirit of Canada. We shouldn’t throw the baby out with the bath water.”

As it stands presently, children born in Canada to foreign nationals may be eligible to sponsor their parents for permanent residency in Canada under Family Class sponsorship once they turn 18 years of age. Parents for whom this situation applies can fill out a free immigration assessment and learn how they may immigrate to Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Highlights Importance of Indian Immigrants

Friday, 15 August 2014 Category Other topics

Prime Minister Stephen Harper delivered a keynote speech in Toronto at the Pearson Convention Centre on Thursday. During his speech, Mr. Harper emphasized that India has become the prime source country for immigration to Canada due to recent changes made by the Canadian government to facilitate immigration from India to Canada.

“Immigration enriches Canada,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Today, India is Canada’s top source country for immigrants. And this explains why Canada’s Indo-Canadian community is over 1.2 million strong and continuing to grow. The Indo-Canadian community has a proud history in our country.”

Mr. Harper referred to the eight Canadian trade and consular offices in India, including New Dehli, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. He compared how his Conservative government has made changes to immigration regulations, making it easier for immigrants to come to Canada. “In 2005, fewer than twenty-five hundred student visas were granted to Indian students,” said Mr. Harper. In 2014, that number has climbed to “nearly 14,000”.

The Prime Minister also mentioned Chris Alexander’s recent first visit to India to announce the CAN+ program, under which there is a “95 percent approval rate, making more Indians able to visit Canada or do business”. The program was designed for Indians who have already travelled to Canada or the US.

Mr. Harper concluded by stating that “Men and women relentlessly pursue their goals to build a better, more prosperous life for themselves and their families, and help this country immensely in the process.”
