Although the FCY demand draft validity has already been confirmed to be 6 months. Still I'm posting the email confirmation I received from HDFC bank support. I had specifically asked them to confirm my queries with Forex department.
My question was related to DD validity as the branch officials were contradicting each others with someone claiming it was valid for 3 months & other saying 6 month.
The validity of FCY Drafts is 6 months.
Next question I asked them was the possibility of extending DD validity.
No you cannot extend the validity of the draft once it has been issued. But you can send in a request for re-validation wherein we can send a request for stop payment of the OLD DD if customer does not have the original physical DD with yourselves provided an indemnity is obtained from the customer, and issue a fresh DD which will again have a validity of 6 Months.
If the customer is having the original DD we can issue a Fresh DD after cancellation of the OLD DD.(THIS is also known as revalidation).
Although I had asked them in how long (in term of days) will it take to confirm the status of my DD (whether it's en-cashsed or not), but they mis-understood the question & responded with how long it will take to en-cash the DD.
DD No XXXXXX is still outstanding. You can ask the beneficiary to present the DD. Once you presents the DD it will be honoured in 3-4 days time depending on the clearing time taken in Canada.
Final question was related to the cancellation charges, for which they instructed me to contact the branch.
Branch can assist you with the DD cancellation charges.
I have sent 'em another query that if it's possible to get some kind of auto-notification as soon as the DD is en-cashed. Although I don't think there will be any such facility available. ;D ;D
