Eligibility

Ontario residents are eligible for provincially funded health coverage (OHIP). Generally, to be eligible for Ontario health coverage you must :
•be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or among one of the newcomer to Canada groups who are eligible for OHIP as set out in Ontario's Health Insurance Act ; and
•be physically present in Ontario for 153 days in any 12-month period; and
•be physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after establishing residency in the province; and
• make your primary place of residence in Ontario.

OHIP coverage normally becomes effective three months after the date you establish residency in Ontario. The ministry strongly encourages new and returning residents to purchase private health insurance in case you become ill during the OHIP waiting period.

Yes, this is exactly what I had read. So that means that no coverage for 3 months, which too might lapse if 153 days are not spent in ON province (not just Canada). Which would mean that it is advisable to carry 3 or 6 months of insurance coverage when first doing the landing! Hope all are taking note and purchasing 3 months coverage before heading out to Canada.

My 3rd line was updated this morning ... My husband and I started dancing .... literally

Our med's were submitted on March 18, 2015 ... and the past 6 days felt like 6 years as we were checking the ECAS every 5 min.

I feel very happy and relaxed ... can't wait for the PPR 8)

hello guys, .... i receive MR as well as PP request , RPRF payment , and update form IMM5406 , after 5 moths from PER from Nairobi Vo... its strange for me to receive PP request as well as MR ... anybody encounter such things .... thanks for forum seniors without u i couldn't even apply fswp 2014... and i wish all the best !

Happy to share that 3rd line got updated in ECAS even before i sent the PCC and RFPR fee. I have taken medicals on 19th March 2015 @ GYD hyderabad at 6 in the evening, got my 3rd line updated today. ( March 24th 2015) . I am sending my PCC and RFPR tomorrow .

There was a site visit by 3 embassy officers during the first week of Jan 2015 at my home office as I am self employed. Their response was positive and they left happy.
Now I've received medical, pcc and rprf request on 18th march, exactly 6 months after 2nd line update.

So my advice to all waiting applicants is that everything should be fine if you have not misrepresented anything, especially your work experience. As a self employed, I had sent all the necessary documents such as 3-4 reference letters from recurring clients on their letterheads, PayPal payment reports of past 6 months and bank statements with my original application.

Good luck to all the waiting applicants.

The hospital i did my medicals informed that they will upload the results today (25th March). I would 2 weeks for 3rd line update (I.E 7 to 10 working days) from medicals date.

For PPR, Honestly i do not know. If i have to take a wild guess looking at the current trend.

I would say 30 - 45 days from 3rd line update

As per me, It would be better to pay the RPRF fees for your spouse right now.

If your spouse does not accompany you and their visa expires. You can anyways claim refund of RPRF

Think about it. You know your situation better than anyone else.

And dependents have to travel within their Single entry visa validity...Right?....that will not extend before their own PR...I mean that will not get extended on the basis of my PR card If I visit alone there initially ....pls advise

you can very well visit Canada alone initially and your wife and kids can follow later on, but you cannot get their pr card initiated. Pr card gets initiated once a pr holder completes landing formalities. So their cards will be initiated only once they land.
