Thanks in advance...
This question has been raised many times in this forum. I would like to take the time to explain this question in detail.
My wife is also pregnant, she is in her 7 month at the moment. I am waiting for MR from LVO and will be going ahead with the chest X-ray as soon as the MR arrives.
Let me tell you the rationale behind this.
The exposure that foetus gets from a single chest X-ray exposure is the same exposure your wife would get with 10 days of sunlight.
Scientific logic behind this is that around 10 Rads are required to damage the foetus where as an average X-ray only has a few milliards.
The beam of the X-ray will be directed at your wife's chest and not at her abdomen. It would have been a different story altogether if she had to do a abdomen X-ray. During the chest x -ray your wife will be wearing a APRON which will prevent the harmful rays affecting the baby.
The catch here is of course to go to a reputed medical lab which have the necessary infrastructure.
I presume all CIC panel labs/doctors are of a minimum standard and would have the necessary equipment and trained manpower to ensure the apron is worn properly.
My doctor is one of Delhi's best or perhaps even India's best.
She has advised me to go ahead with the X ray as long as it is ONE exposure only.
Your question of course would be why do some countries do not allow this?
Simply put, they have too many extra patient protection laws where liability on the doctor and hospital is very high.
They do not want to take any risk on themselves. For example Canada. Just like they have better road safety laws, they have better hospital safety laws.
Living in India, we should not even be stepping on the road according to Canadian standards because someone may mow us down.
