Hi All,

So happy to be here.

I am a nigerian, new on this forum and also new to the immigration process for canada FSW.
I registered here to be more enlightened through your posts, comments and advise on how to go about the FSW visa canada.

I am looking to apply for this visa shortly after I write the IELTS exam. I have also been reviewing the requirements for being eligible and I think I am eligible based on experience and educational requirements being the areas that will give me more points in addition to the other requirements. However i have a few questions which I am hoping someone in this forum can help me with;

1) Is there a specified period during which you need to have funds in your possession before you apply? (is it similar to how the UK do it for student visas where you have to have funds for a period of 90 days)

2) I have work experience as a IT first line engineer (1yr 3months) plus 6 months as an IT Support analyst. Would both of these be enough to account for my work experience eligibility? I am wondering the NOC category this may be classed as?

3) Regarding proof of education, I read that you need to perform an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign credentials. Do I need to do this? Is this country dependent?

4) I really don't want to use agency for my application. I want to apply by myself. I know I can apply comfortably. Is this advisable?

Thank you all as I await any responses to this.

Cheers.

1) Is there a specified period during which you need to have funds in your possession before you apply? (is it similar to how the UK do it for student visas where you have to have funds for a period of 90 days) It is important to have the funds in your account as at when you apply, not necessarily for a long time before you apply. The Visa officer may later ask you to send current evidence that you still have the funds in your current/savings account. A lot of people however just use fixed deposit that will last till the end of the process.

2) I have work experience as a IT first line engineer (1yr 3months) plus 6 months as an IT Support analyst. Would both of these be enough to account for my work experience eligibility? I am wondering the NOC category this may be classed as? Anybody with one year continuous, full time employment is eligible to apply. Just review the list of eligible IT NOCs for FSW 2014 to see where you best fit in.
These are some of them;
Information systems analysts and consultants (2171)
Database analysts and data administrators (2172)
Software engineers and designers (2173)
Computer programmers and interactive media developers (2174)
Check their full roles and responsibilities here (http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/quicksearch.aspx?val65=2174)

3) Regarding proof of education, I read that you need to perform an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign credentials. Do I need to do this? Is this country dependent? This compulsory for all applicants except those who have Canadian educational qualifications.

4) I really don't want to use agency for my application. I want to apply by myself. I know I can apply comfortably. Is this advisable? Most Nigerians are applying by themselves. I personally believe that anybody who graduated from a university does not need a consultant. Just print the Instructions Guide (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp) and Documents Checklist (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5612E.pdf). Study them very well and ask questions from others where you are not clear

Thank you all as I await any responses to this.

Cheers.

Hello.........I got notification from my bank (GTB) on Sat. 28/06/14 on the debit of my dollar mastercard account by CIC. Though I cannot ascertain the exact date the account was charged, but suspect it was Friday 27/06/14. I applied under NOC 2132 and my application was received by CIO on 07/05/2014 delivered through DHL.

I guess I'm the first person on this forum to be charged from Nigeria. Can someone advise when I should expect PER mail. Thanks for all the informative posts from our senior colleagues here.

Ussave.

Congrats Ussave! I am NOO 2132 as well but application filed 8th May. Waiting eagerly and patiently (lol)

Good day house,
Am new here and interesting forum i must say.... You guys seems to make the process a lot easier than i thought, thumbs up peeps!
My query; am yet to apply due to some factors delaying/slowing down my documentation. From all indications i may not even submit till oct as am yet to write my IELTS and the earliest possible date is 16th of Sept. Based on this should i still go ahead or forget about Canada :(

Dear Peter, see my responses above. Congrats on the new family member o. :D You must wash this one again when we get to the land of Maple leaves :P

@ PIPIS HUSBAND, U ARE ALWAYS UP TO THE POINT,

HAD SENT HER DETAILS TO THE IMMIGRATION AT ABUJA. IF SHE IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH, WILL POST THE FORMS LIKE THAT FIRST AND THEN LATER UPDATE IT.

I DREAM OF HOLDING NOT JUST THOSE MAPLE LEAVES, BUT THAT BLUE PASSPORT FROM CANADA.
