Dear forumites,

Congratulations to all with positive feedback as regards their application. I pray for peace of mind and more grace to continue to wait for the entire process to sail through.

I need opinions on a matter please; a friend whose application was received shortly before mine (oct 30,2014) hasn't been able to confirm from her bank if her DD has been claimed. She went from one branch to another and Sent mails to the fx dept as advised. The branches gave her Different opinions. She was eventually told yesterday to liase directly with the beneficiary(Receiver General for Canada) as it is not "possible" for the bank to know this(and I am wondering why and how) . Both of us don't know how she will do that. She's kind of anxious esp as my own DD has been claimed on Jan 6 according to my bank.
Is it not possible for any bank who issues a fx draft to be able to truly know if or not d said draft has been settled??

Thanks for your comments and insights on this matter.

Kindly advise on how she can proceed.

Hi,
It is possible for a bank to know if an issued DD has been paid, they just need to ask the foreign bank they used to issue the draft. The FX unit of your friends bank should be the one to handle this. I was in a similar situation, I sent up to 8 Emails before I was finally answered even when the answer came I had already received my PER.
Good luck to your friend.

Hi, you did not indicate the name of the bank for us to advise you appropriately. However, you can obtain confirmation for DD status from GT Bank through any of the branches or directly from the Funds Transfer department at their Oyin Jolayemi office in VI, Lagos.
I got my confirmation from them after dropping my DD details with them. They got across to their correspondent bank, Citibank and then they emailed me that same night with the payment date of my encashed DD. It pays to be very polite to the staff on ground to enable them go out of their way to assist. Like in a lot of things, approach matters. Regards to your friend :)

Thank you Heropop and PH, the bank is GTBank. She went to some of their branches and she told me she called her account officer. She was asked to send a mail to fxcustomerservice or something like that which she did but was told to liase with the beneciary. Should she go to Oyin Jolayemi branch then? Or who can she contact either by mail or phone there?

Thaannkkksss!

Hello Goodthings,
Congrats on your milestone, its actually good thing. Please what is your timeline, I mean date your documents were received and PER date etc, it will help others with estimating dates and possibly preempt proof of funds. To your concern, I would suggest you proof where the funds was transferred to and/or better-still if the account is not in either your spouse or your name I will suggest, get funds and do a fixed deposit and submit the certificate as POF along with the account where the funds was booked from... my opinion though because I believe AVO just want to revalidate your funding capacity that's all, just demonstrate you have unencumbered funds anyhow.....

Please ask your friend to go straight to Oyin Jolayemi with her copy of the draft and politely ask for the draft status. It is her right as the person who purchased the draft. Remember to be polite but firm. No contact, phone number or email required, cheers.

I encountered same issue with GTB before I received PER. I contacted the FX unit on phone and they told me I would have to contact the beneficiary, even when I told them I knew someone they assisted to confirm the encashment. Eventually they
told me it was not encashed and few days later I received PER. So its either they do not want to give the info or ....i don't know. Better you visit their branch if its convenient for you.
Good luck
