Hi all,
I am planning to send the passports tomorrow. Do we need to send updated travel form? My spouse had come to India from Saudi for 10 days and I had been there for a month. Please advise.

You're friend is correct, you'd need about $3,500/mo.

For $1,000/mo you can rent a basement apartment; the basement of the house of the landlord. It would be quite small for a family with 2 elementary school kids, but I suppose you can always move to a better place once you get a job.

Being a basement of a house, most probably, the location will be in a residential area. You'd want to have a car. Expect to pay, at the very least, $350/mo for car insurance. You don't want to rack up your monthly costs, so I suggest buy an old car worth $2,500-$3,500; you can always buy a better car (maybe a brand new one) once you get a job.

As for benefits, since you're new, you'll be considered "low income" (even if you land a 100k/year job today) for the tax year; this means your kids will receive full child tax benefit from Ontario ($400+ each) on top of the Universal Child tax Benefit ($100 each). Be sure to apply for it right away (your wife should be the one to apply). Go to this website: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/bnfts/cctb/menu-eng.html. This means you're kids will be providing you about $1,000/mo family income.

You need a T4 slip (income slip from an employer) to file for a tax return, so this means if you get a job now, you'll need to file your tax returns next year.

P.S. In my experience, bringing $25,000 and getting a job on the 3rd month of landing would be the most comfortable scenario. I myself brought the minimum of $18,000 (family of 3) and it barely made 3-months! Canada says the minimum settlement funds will last you 6-months without a job. That is pure BS! (unless you get a decent job on the 1st month)

How did you guys find out your application was returned/being returned?
What did your ECAS status show while you were waiting for your returned application or had received it?
Is there a way to find out why the application was returned prior to receiving it back?

My application was received by CIC back in January but no response (not even CC charge), my ECAS shows nothing, I am suspecting my application has been returned for some reason.

No. It is not needed as they have not requested for the same.

60 days and counting for DM, it's been 60 days now from MR/PPR request.

My other friends waiting from Dec 13 and Jan 14, please let us know if there is any update or any email response from NDVO for the long drawn time taken to stamp passport.

Hi bro....i guess early birds were not as lucky as the people who applied late i guess its luck now...cant say wat pattern ndvo following another person with same NOC applied in end Oct n already got passport stamped.....just praying for everything to happen soon...job is at stake......hope besy for everybody waiting.... The only way to know the status of your application before your application fee (CC or DD) is en-cashed is via email. You can send an email to CIC (CIO-Sydney-Search-Enquiry @ cic.gc.ca). However, you should send an enquiry email only after 8 weeks from the date of receipt of your application at CIC. You will receive a reply within 20 working days. If your application has been returned, they will let you know.

Here is a sample of their reply.

"Dear Sir/Madam,

Please be advised that your application was returned with all attachments on 19 Dec 2013 as the cap of NOC 2132 has been reached. A letter of explanation was provided along with the application package.

Please note: all returned applications are sent via regular mail to the mailing address as entered on the application package. There is no tracking number. Once the application is mailed, its delivery is the responsibility of the postal service. Applications are not sent via courier.

Good luck ! i believe you will receive your PER soon. It has not yet been 8 weeks since you filed your application. Patience ! People got PER after 6 months as well.

So its not from the month you have landed, Only after 18months provide you met all the eligibility. Am I right?

I need help from you guys. I need answers to the following questions, as for now, I can't decide what to do next:

Anyone here working abroad who already receive MR? Where did you go for your medical exam? How long is the process? Did your physician send your results directly to the CEM Manila?

How about PPR? What is the time frame the CEM Manila give you to send your passport, e.g. within 1 month, 2 months, etc. How did you manage to send it? Did you resign from your work abroad and wait until you're in the Philippines before sending your passport?
