Well, give me a break!

I believe nobody knows better than CIC about how the points are assigned! right?

While I was filling in my application, I had been calling CIC almost everyday to get information about how to fill in the forms .. (BTW, they are very responsive to these kind of questions).

The CIC agent told me that the points will be assigned based on the experience claimed for the NOC which the applicant has chosen as the primary NOC. However, it is up to the visa officer to grant the points if he/she is convinced that the other NOC(s) the applicant has claimed experience for are related to the primary NOC.

In case the NOCs are not related .. no points should be granted for the NOC other than the primary, which is very rare to find people moving from job to another unrelated job.

I mean .. you might be working as a Business Analyst for 4 years, then you got promoted and worked for 2 years as a Project Manager .. The NOCs are different, however, the job descriptions/duties are overlapping .. thus, the officer might grant you the point for the full 6 years!

I hope this helps!.

@ Stranger Friendly.

Just if I got your right you mean if a person in last 10 years has 9 year exp as lecturer(not in 29 NOC for 2013) and one yr as Comp Programmer (NOC 2174, Valid NOC for 2013) then he can use any number of NOC codes for work experience but he will get points for only one year of NOC code 2174.....Then tat is absolutely wrong he will get points for all the 10 years.....provided one of those 10 yrs he as worked in occupation that falls under one of 29 valid codes for 2013. In above example(just for argument) as the person has one yr exp under 2174. so he will get points for all those 10 years meaning 15 not for 1 year working as Computer programmer (noc code 2174). If anyone disagrees to this I am open to any argument. This has been discussed in great detail in forum a month or so back......If u think otherwise just let me know your arguments what you think is the way for points for work experience....thanx

I am agree with this comments.

Thanks for posting.

@ Manish and @ FSW .. This is an official (and serious) invitation to come over and go together to Niagara falls. (Lamia and Hassan are also invited) .. Maina as well!

I do PhD in Software Engineering .. It is a kind of joint between mechanical and software !!! (I'm trying to apply some mechanical engineering theories and principles to software development on the management level (Lean software project management)

If you are interested in pursuing higher studies .. I'm currently preparing a huge proposal for a very big grant (will get it most likely as I have industrial partner) where I need to recruit 2-3 Master's of PhD students! If you are interested in Software Engineering/Agile/Automated Testing/ ..etc. let me know so that we can discuss further the available opportunities.

I even recruited my current boss at work as a PhD student (Maybe this is why I got the full-time job offer :o :o :o)

@albaik

I think what I am asking is out of last 10 yrs 1 years exp has to be under eligible noc code (29 codes for 2013-14) if a person has exp of full 1 year in one of these 29 NOC codes and rest 9 years under NOC code which is not one of eligible 29 NOC codes.... I suggest he would be getting points for all 10 years even if 9 year exp is from HRDC code that is not one of 29 eligible. But for claiming 9 years experience points you need to have your file processed which is eligible for processing if one of last 10 yr work exp falls under one of 29 eligible NOC codes(talking about 2013-14 eligibility codes). If you think otherwise letme know ......thanx

Well, again. It depends on the NOC(s) you are claiming experience for! If they are related and overlapping or not!

For the part of the eligibility .. I agree that you should have at least one year of experience under one of the 29 NOCs, if you apply as FSW1, however, if you apply under PhD stream or under Arranged Job offer (FSW2 and FSW3), you need one year of experience under the NOC you apply for, even if it is not one of the 29 NOCs.

@albaik

I am sayin in ref to FSW 2013 applicants category.... for claiming 10 yr exp even if you are lecturer for 9 years (non eligible noc for 2013) but one yr exp is in 2174 (computer programmer .... eligible category for 2013) ..... you will get points for all 10 years that is 15 not 9 just for 2174 NOC work..... hope you got my point .... its purely w.r.t FSW 2013 skilled worker category.... hope you agree
