I got tired of complaining to my wife, so I made a change.org petition. If the signatures are there, I am going to try to get more detailed answers from CIC as to the reason for the most recent delays, and hopefully have more of a dialogue than, "Please be patient and wait", that many are hearing when they call CIC regarding the issue. I hope the 500 signatures will be more of a pressure to speak frankly and directly.

Petition is looking good. 100 signatures already! Thanks for passing it around Shooting for 500 signatures.

Good luck with this, highly in support of it. My wife applied from the US and had to wait nearly 2 nears to obtain permanent residency, with a very simple case. It needs to end.

500 is a really low goal to get. 20,000 is more typical of what you should be shooting for. Browse the other petitions to see what number iof signatures is typical for broad national topics.

20,000 would be terrific! let's see how 500 goes, then I can always up it. but yes, the more the better, as it's more impactful/

I signed it and put up a link on my facebook page as well. I think we should really move the government on this.

They are diverting resources to process economic class immigrants because of the strike.

I don't care if we're being idealistic, but this is the way I want to be.

Great job putting the petition together!

Can you please let me know which visa office's statistics you used on the petition? Are these general overall statistics for Stage 1 and Stage 2 or specific to a certain country? I'm assuming it is for Ottawa?

"CIC has been processing applications from October 8th for roughly 6 weeks at this point. The overall processing time has gone from 14 months (6 months first stage, 8 months second stage) to 16 months in these past 6 weeks."

Prior to signing the petition and passing it on to friends and family I would like to know that the intention is to impact processing times for all applications in all countries. There seems to be several people signing the petition that may not be going through the Ottawa visa office.

When my husband and I applied in March 2012 (outland), processing timelines for Stage 1 was around 90 days and Stage 2 (for Kingston, Jamaica) was 16 months. Stage 2 has since increased to 19 months.

Good luck obtaining 500+ signatures and for trying to make a change to this CrAZy process!

good questions! I started it as a petition for Inland applications, so would be going through the offices within canada. I got the timelines from the CIC Processing Times page for Family Class Sponsorship. The change from 6 month initial stage to 8 is due to recent calls to CIC where they said they would be changing it on the website, that change has not occurred yet though. I will edit it to reflect the inland process, as that is my specific aim, but perhaps someone can make one for timeframes in general.

Thanks for pointing that out :)

Also, were almost at 200 signatures already! 300 more to go, awesome job people.

This is a great initiative, thank you for creating it! I've just signed it!

I signed the petition too yesterday and messaged you i guess. My husband's application is outland, thats why its very very very very tough. is there any other steps we can take? ...you know, i also called the PAFSO office in ottawa and asked how long this might go on and that i am suffering badly due to this situations and they should consider processing the family class sponsorships faster. the lady who i talked to literally laughed on the phone and said... "well, what u can do is send an email to the minister and make all the other call him too, so that they come to the bargaining table sooner. but i am afraid we cant do anything. i hope you go through this situation, good luck." ....and i was like... WOW. i wanted to yell at her ...but i could not. these people barely care and they will go worse if the government doesn't come to the bargaining table...but there has to be some other way...WHY would we suffer for their problems? what did we do to suffer? they have no right to keep our families away from us, and honestly, it seems like a prisoner has more rights than we have right now regarding this issue. breaks my heart. :(

Signed- Good luck on your goal!

The most recent delays are due to the job action of the members of PAFSO. Delayed processing times prior to that were due to the closing of visa offices and redirecting applications to a central visa office. This created a huge backlog.

So many delays, it's crazy. And of course while we're trying to put an app through, what are the odds? Can't wait to be a PR, or even a Citizen, and think back on this and laugh.

Also,

WE PASSED 250 SIGNATURES!!! Beyond half way! :P ;D :D ;) :D ;D :o 8) :P

What delays? Do you have delays due to documents or you mean the general waiting period?
