Government is in DEBT. It is called a deficit. They borrow money to pay their employees. No profit there. LCBOs, Postal Services pay for Medical Care, roads, other civil servants salaries. This is called taxation, just a different form of it. Same as HST is a different form of taxation. Please, study Canadian history of taxation and see for yourself what is it all about. "Profitable" enterprises pay for the non-profitable ones. So, the money Postal workers "made" went to the Medical System that postal workers use, schools their kids go for free to, the roads they drive on and the expenses of Canada Post itself. They have not always been profitable, so the shortage was borrowed from other taxes or even governments. Governments don't make a profit, and if they have a surplus (which is rare nowadays) they store it against future debt or lower the taxes, and it is their obligation to do so. Even at minimum wage immigration workers would not be paid by application fees, where does the money to pay them come from? Does CIC sell cars on the side. No, it borrows money from the common pot supplied by ...... taxes in all their shapes and glories. This is called a Federal Budget (which strives to be balanced at 0, but is most of the time in the red). If immigration or postals services privatizes, and starts selling hotdogs on the corner we'll talk about employee profit sharing and what the definition of that is.

Speaking of hotdogs, Happy Canada Day tomorrow =))

Sorry I should have been more clear. You are right that a union with more members is stronger than one with less. What I was trying to say is that once a union controls a certain industry or sector it is beneficial to increase the requirements to enter. Otherwise wages will go down. Also, unions such as the carpenters union exert their power to make sure only union members get work. But if everyone with two eyes can join the union then the overall wages go down.
My example was more for specialized unions.

Makes more sense though you can have different bargaining units within the same union which fixes both problems of wages and managements' strategy to divide and conquer.

Doubtful that she fully understands what she is saying but the content is accurate.

Profit, loss, debt, are all beside the point -- unions are one form of the universal right to organize with other people to protect and better yourself. If you want to argue about whether they 'should' exist, immigrate to the United States.

Signed the petition! I also do hope that you'll include outland apps as well. My husband signed it too, gonna be passing it around.

(PS: Congrats CanadianJeepGuy! Just saw your profile's Landed date :) )

Cheers.

So much billshut waiting for what little time it takes to actually get PR approval. The more I learn about how broken this immigration system is the more I think the FSW's are as much victims of it as the applicants.

We've reached over 500 signatures. Gonna be contacting some people :)

Signed. It'd be great to add outland applicants to your title & subject there. I myself am an outland sponsor, and the numbers of the outland applications is a loooot more than inland ones.

Thanks

Signed it.

You should really add outland as well. For example, my timeline for stage 2 was 6 months when we started compiling the file, 8 months when we applied, and now it's 13 months. All that in less than a year.

Inland applicants are usually with their spouses. Outland ones are usually separated.

we are going on 9 mos waiting for 1st response and hopefully work permit how long have others been waiting the site still says processing oct 12 we filled end of nov 12,, have they not updated the site or are they stillllllll processing oct 12,lol :(

My husband and I signed it. The waiting game is NOT fun. Its painful to be honest. We just got AIP......after 436 days of waiting.

Just pray your file doesn't get transferred to the local office prior to AIP, then you will really be waiting, possibly an extra 4 months to 2 years. Many of us have had that experience and it isn't pleasant.

It's amazing and shocking how long this process is for spousal sponsorship -- my wife and I came to Canada under the federal skilled worker program, which took just under a year and would have been 6-8 months if we hadn't had a child halfway through. I sort of understand how this can be so -- the FSW program is set up to prioritize a few things that are easily measured (education and employment), whereas relationships occur in all states and forms . . . but it's still cruel. My sympathies to everyone in this situation.

the petition is just shy of 600 signatures now. a copy has been sent off to ottawa offices and i am speaking to my MP to see who else i can send this to.
