Hey guys,

I've been trying to find an answer but no luck so far!
I hope you might be able to help me :).

My current WH visa expires March 30 2017, and I received an invite for the YP this week. I currently have OHIP through my job, but this expires the same day as my WH visa (March 30 2017).

I will keep OHIP the moment I get my new visa... but won't get proof till after I get my new visa lol... is there a way I can get my YP flagpoled without having to buy private insurance (prefer not to waste close to a 1000CAD for private insurance since I will be covered by OHIP again).

Hope anyone has experience with this :).

Anyone got any ideas :)?
I know it's a bit of a weird scenario so I don't expect a lot of people to have had the same problem but I can't be the only one right haha?

Not sure how helpful this is but when I came here on a WH visa, I had proof of my own insurance but never had to show it to anybody. When I first was signing up for the WH visa(before getting the invite) I had to provide an insurance policy number but other than that, they asked for nothing. I crossed the border with a packet full of the info they ask for(proof of funds, insurance, payment receipts etc) and they asked for absolutely nothing other than my passport and my port of entry letter.

Again, I know this isn't super helpful and depends on how lax your border officer is. Maybe if you could provide proof that your work covers your insurance by a letter or something and once you flagpole have that handy?

With my WH they were vicious! But maybe the letter thing might work!

Thanks for thinking with me :).

1. You need the private insurance a OHIP doesn't have a repatriation clause, which is a requirement for IEC http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/arrival.asp

The Inmigration Officer could not ask for your insurance but in case he ask you better have proper insurance covering the whole expected WP length.

It's a requirement and you should fulfill it

Just try to find the cheaper one

Ha! I just got an email from IEC saying the same thing! Not sure why I couldn't find this before! Thanks :) PMM

I'm gonna guess company benefits don't count as insurance so I will try to find a super cheap option (Thanks Gregor).
