I am a mother sponsoring my 14-year-old son (dependent child) who is currently living in Vietnam with my mother (his grandmother). As he doesn't have a father's name on his birth certificate, I signed all the forms for him
As he doesn't have a father, I signed all the forms on behalf of him, including IMM 5406 in which I put his name as principal applicant and me as his mother and father "unknown". I didn't submit the form IMM 5604.
However, after more than 2 months waiting, CIC returned my application because of incomplete or missing IMM 5406 and IMM 5604.
- For IMM 5604, can I ask my mother in Vietnam to sign the form as his legal guardian as he doesn't have the other parent? And if this is the right thing to do, my mother (as his guardian) will have to sign all the other forms such as IMM 0008, IMM 5406 and IMM 1340?
- For IMM 5406, is it right that his name must be put as principal applicant? Who else would be? Can't be my name because i am his sponsor.
I must re-submit the application and want to make sure it won't be returned again.
