Foreign Service - Strike?

Personally speaking, you couldn't pay me enough to do what they do, foreign or domestic. Having to read and listen to peoples crap, lies and BS everyday. Some country specific threads I read purely for entertainment value.

Roughly 15% of all applications are denied for various reasons. For arguments sake let's group those refusals all together as MOC or marriage fraud. Based on the 15% figure, does this imply that 15% of the posters on this forum are liars/cheats/scammers. Or is this site full of legitimate love. Me thinks not lol.

FSO workers are underpaid and under appreciated. No wonder most quit to become consultants.

Government services are a people business. Its easy to get jaded. Who knows just how many denials are legitimate denials? Every government office has its quotas.

The FSW's are truly underpaid and under appreciated. I'm sure its all pretty exciting at the beginning but posted far away from family and friends. Dodgy accommodation? Foreign postings should be tax-free. I wish there was a way we could rally the public behind them.

June 11, 2013 — The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) union is currently taking strike action. PAFSO union members responsible for processing visa applications have been walking out of offices in Canada and overseas.

Posted processing times for both temporary and permanent resident visa applications do not take into account work stoppages.

Anyone applying for a visa should anticipate delays and submit their application as far in advance as possible.

Contingency plans are already in place to ensure all offices remain open and are providing at least a minimum level of service. Priority will be placed on urgent humanitarian applications.

CIC continues to closely monitor the situation.

Not to my knowledge. Keep in mind that this is the same strategy the Conservatives have done with every government service and Crown Corp. They don't negotiate or set terms that are completely ridiculous and then force the Union members to vote for a strike. They allow management to fart about and look like they are trying to resolve the issue until the Government steps in, declares them an essential service and legislates them back to work at far worse conditions then what management had already offered.
