Hey All,

Interesting article regarding the backlog of visa applications from Yahoo news about the Mexican government getting mad about the visa process.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/mexico-really-mad-canada-over-imposed-travel-visa-154303940.html

Cheers,
More knee-jerk policy at work. I have never ever seen a government fly by the seat of the pants like this one does.

Cheers,
That article isn't about the backlog and has nothing to do with the strike. It's about the visa regulations for Mexico and how the Mexican government wants these to be eased. This is foreign policy and nothing to do with our applications.

As somebody above stated, this has nothing to do with the labour negotiations, but rather visa/travel restrictions on Mexicans. If more Mexicans would come here as tourists with fat wallets and not sneaking in to work illegally, you bet Clement himself would be in the Mexico VO stamping visas with great haste! Look at all the corrupt govt officials from other countries living in Vancouver. It's like a country club for them! It doesn't matter HOW you got your money, as long as you have it, and your visa will get stamped.

They filed a notice of appeal which suggests they intend to delay, but they could always withdraw the appeal. Maybe they are waiting until they have a pow wow or make a plan, but they had to file notice within a certain time frame.

I'm wondering what could make them withdraw the appeal. Face? Pressure from MPs whenever Parliament convenes? But that would mean they'd have to negotiate. On the one hand I want this to end; on the other, I like to see the cons bumbling so that even Joe Idiot won't vote for them next time.

It's interesting to speculate, but one thing is certain, we should be pressuring our MPs and writing if possible to newspapers.

The problem with the average Joe Idiot, they don't care, have nothing vested, and are probably completely clueless to this entire job action, this will have zero bearing on probably 95% of the population, and not only be forgotten by 2015, but probably unheard of the majority of Joe Idiots.

I don't put much stock in the voting intelligence or ambition of the majority of Canadians. After the last Federal election, and the last provincial election (in BC - WTF happened there????)

Oh yes, I agree with you, but we live to hope! But aside from the Joe Idiots, what are the possible routes this event could take? Will the cons finally negotiate or will PAFSO union members run out of money or will the labour board step up and do what it should have in the first place? In the ruling, it sounds like they can take the further step of forcing negotiation even though "force" is against the principle of "negotation". Any opinions?

Not to seem like a Joe Idiot, and maybe it's just cause I'm young, but if this strike didn't directly affect my life I would have no idea that it was even happening. The only news that I read is that of which I directly google. However I do vote, and before voting I look at the issues each party addresses and choose whichever one I agree with on the most subjects. Its the only way to do it, no party is 100% awesome, not even close.

No, it is not just you, and it is not because you are young or anything, even in my Union Activist roles (yes I am a very active Union person at many levels) we are not hearing jack s**t about this job action.

We have a media that for the most part seems to either have a love affair, or fear of the current Government, and does not want to shine any light of consequence on this government, even with the Senate scandal, beyond just a few snippets repeated adnausim.

What we have had, is a continual attack on Unions in the media (try listening to the Roy Green show on the chorus network on the weekends, and his "Beauties and the Beast" segment, continual blasting of (especially) public sector Unions, yet one of the "Beauties" (their words) husband was a bureaucrat with the federal forestry ministry or some such crap, and very much made his fortunes on the public tit, but yet now that they have made theirs, here they are basing the same system that financed their lives, house, cars, cottage etc.

This year it is in vogue to bash Unions as the cause of all that is wrong with the economy, while the ones leading the charge (Government and their cronies) sell Canada bit by bit out the back door at a discount to any multi national with a check book. The slant right now is very anti Union. Unfortunately every ones seems to have forgotten the history of the Union movement in Canada, and seem to think the state will take care of everything for us, if we get the Unions out of the way of progress.

Canada has a proud history of trying to bust Unions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winnipeg_General_Strike funny how history repeats it's self.

1919 they tried bullets, 2013 they are trying snippets on social media. we where here after 1919, we will be here after 2013. Hopefully these fools won't be here after 2015.

I will 100% agree no party is 100% awesome, more like 95% dullards with a 5% mix of sound bites on localized hot topics, spin doctoring and finger pointing.

Much like the NDP party that was fielded in the last BC Provincial election, 95% dullards without even a personality, 5% naval lint contemplation = 100% epic fail :)

What is even happening to journalism these days? The media has so much power and the whole "government is tearing families apart" angle would make a great story. There is enough of it happening that every city could run a whole segment and feature real people who are actually going through this right now. That I believe would put a lot of pressure on the government cause if they don't do something then they look like they don't care that a two year old only knows what his dad looks like from pictures and skype (which maybe they don't care, but they need to pretend they do). Media is concentrating on talking about temporary visas, but this kind of stuff is not what the average middle aged canadian cares about. Speaking from experience my parents, my friends parents, my grandparents even more so don't care for immigrants coming in on workers and study visas. To them that's foreigners "taking away our kids jobs." Not to say that it's true, but I feel like that's the general mindset. I can just picture my grandpa after hearing that the strike is preventing foreigners getting these temporary visas saying "Good! Don't need anymore of those *censored* in our country anyways." So I think you are right, I think that the government is controlling the media. If journalists were allowed to think for themselves the strike would be over already. No MP wants to be thought of as the guy who is keeping a child from her father/mother.

I'm hoping that they won't get reelected in 2015. Like I said before I don't follow politics or the news basically at all but I know that at the minimum they don't have the environmental vote or the immigrant vote. Guess we will just have to see what else they screw up in the next year.
