LMAO! CJG, you TOTALLY got me with the anglophone parrot! Sounded just silly enough to be true. Thanks for the giggle!

The Beaverton is really good. I think it should be mandatory reading for every Canadian and Permanent Resident.

A lot of people were fooled. Quebec language laws are just that stupid that it could well enough be true. ;D

Seriously. I've been pleasantly surprised by how friendly and helpful people are up here, how they try to work with me as I stumble along in broken French. Individually, people tend be pretty nice and encouraging of me learning French. On a grand scale, however, the politics can be repulsive at times.

Many Quebecers are fine people, very friendly. The key thing is for them is you try to learn the language and their culture. If they see you stumbling around, they appreciate that you are at least putting in effort to speak French. But when you see groups like the PQ and Bloc and how over the top they get with their policies, it make it hard to swallow and you gives you a negative feeling about the direction of Quebec sometimes...

Has anyone found their application has been affected by the strike?

Yes. It's the only thing that could explain why London is not getting my CoPR out. I can't think of anything else that would be a valid excuse.

They have a family picnic on Monday

PAFSO members and friends in the NCR, please join us for Monday September 2's Labour Day Parade. It starts from Ottawa City Hall (Lisgar & Elgin) at noon, and wraps up with a family-friendly picnic from 1-4 p.m. at McNabb Park (Gladstone & Bronson), including music, balloons, pony rides, games, face painting, clowns and more.

What are they celebrating? Isn't Labour Day about celebrating the achievements of workers? They are not working, so wtf are they celebrating?

This holiday officially celebrates workers and the labour union movement...

It was a sarcastic rhetorical question.

And with an incorrect premise to boot. Bonus!

Yeah hun, my husband's is in limbo. We made a leap of faith and came to Canada right before the strike happened. 5 months into his visitor visa and still no visa. We applied in September of 2012, I was accepted as his sponsor in November 2012. Ever since then we have been waiting. We are very stressed.

With me and my wife, it also is like that. We got the sponsorship thing out of the way, but now we are waiting on her PR visa to come through....not sure how long this whole thing is going to take (we applied for it about 6 months ago....) but we are waiting it out in Korea, not Canada. Can't take the chance of going there right now and then being rejected for entry.

Seriously? And I thought I worried about things too much.
