Emailing your MP is the best thing to do if your application has been with the Embassy in your home country for more than 6 months.

They are on reduced staff. No negotiation will be reached. The government will find a way to claim they are an essential service and legislate them back to work. They have done this to all unionized government and Crown Corporation employees. This government is as corrupt as the Liberals are stupid.
While other MP's make direct emails, listen to their folks. My MP strictly said, don't contact us for another 6 months after they found that my file was in progress with security starting after so so date ( which I already knew via GCMS notes ) - all this after a 4 week wait as they don't "prefer" to email LVO's directly and contact their person in Ottawa. My case was I never got paperwork due to wrong email and due date was passed
Ya, so my MP is pretty much useless

You remind your MP that:

1) He works for you
2) It doesn't matter what is convenient for him or CIC you have paid for this service and require access to it.
3) If his/her office doesn't want to make inquiries then you will go to the opposition.

Frankly, I actually have no hopes with MP's or any other political person. All I know is money talks and no one gives a damn about us. It's just not this country, its everywhere

We had to contact our MP twice throughout the process, and the immigration person in our MPs office was incredibly helpful and prompt to answer us and get information for us asap. And told us if we ever need anymore help with anything to contact him directly and he will be glad to help us.

I guess not everyone gets a good experience unfortunatly, but i am thankful for the help our MP office has given us
:)

It should never come to a point where you have to involve your MP at all. That fact that people have to only shows just how fooked up the whole process is. My MP was not that interested in helping out at our first meeting so I had to remind them that they have an obligation whether they like it or not. Since then they have been pretty good at following up with the exception of my wife's remed.

I agree.

But I think in our case it was a bit different, the average processing time according to spreadsheets and aors for mexico city is 6-8 months and our file was technically only 2 days over the 13 month mark(cic processing time). So we didn't really have to contact the MP, but I was tired of waiting and My dads wedding was coming up quick so I wanted to know if the MP could get us a better timeline to know if my husband would be able to join us and arrange the plans for him to be part of the wedding or not.

So it wasn't that we HAD to, but I wanted too.

but the point is more not that we contacted them, but that they were very helpful to us and were willing to continue being helpful without having to remind them who they worked for. but like I said its clearly a different situation for everyone, depending on the MPs and whos interest they have in mind.

You have a great MP. Mine is Conservative and a bit of a stubborn mule but once I got them going they were pretty good.

Do UK MPs really have any clout over Canadian public services striking? Just a bit confused as to what people expect their MPs to be able to do.

MPs here refer to Canadian MP's of the sponsor.

Yeah, ours is a conservative too, But we live in a town of 100,000 so there are only 2 MPs, one for the south and one for the north. And he has lived here forever and farmed in the area and was a teacher and such, so I think that makes a difference, hes really well known in the community. So that's probably why he was a lot more helpful.

That is really unfortunate that many are like yours!! But im glad you got him working even if you had to being pushy. sometimes they do need a reminder who they are working for!

No,
The Canadian partner of you and your spouse, would have a Canadian MP that takes care of the area he/she lives in.

We are outland too, but I am Canadian so I contacted the MP that takes care of the area that I live in.

Your Canadian sponsor has an MP.

Unfortunately for you Canada is no longer a colony or else a UK MP could probably exercise some influence. This is now a legal job action and the Canadian government would have to find a legal way to legislate the FSW's back to work.
