One should also be aware that police and fire fighters are in that range too (and depending on overtime can far exceed those scales). And before someone says there is no risk to PAFSO employees, think about embassy workers in Egypt right now, or the ones who were in Iran during the revolution, or other hotspots over time. And that isn't even counting the other problems like lack of control over postings, being moved around, other family difficulties, etc. And also consider that they also have to watch what they do at all times as they "represent" Canada in foreign countries. In other words you give up a lot of privacy and time and freedom to do the job.

As I said before, they ain't just flippin' burgers...

Ok, it is painfully obvious with that video why Sun Network is hemorrhaging $18 million a year.

Mean pay is really misleading. It really doesn't tell us very much.

Here are the FSO salary bands.

You know, seems to me that MPs, and especially ministers make WAY more than the average Canadian. So I think their pay should be brought down. But of course don't hold your breath waiting for that one...

good luck

It's too bad there seemed no other way to irritate management than to mess around with our futures and I can't believe this government hates unions so much that they've allowed this to go on three months and counting. Does this government honestly believe it can break a powerful federal government union? If so, expect many more months of waiting around for that magical ecas update. :-[

Not to change the topic, but does anyone have a website url where one can get up to date information on the happenings of the strike and potential negotiations? I actually went to the Canadian embassy in Beijing and they were very tight lipped about the whole thing. The only info I could extract was that visas were still being issued and that significantly less officers would slow the process. Frustrating. >:(

Thanks for that. This is the one I remember.

36 months of training. Having to learning other languages and cultures and live within them. Where do you go on weekends? To fly anywhere for a vacation will cost you more than just driving up to the cottage. Major increase of workload......I still don't think these people get paid enough for what they have to do.

Scos made a good point that these are the same salary ranges as cops and hose jockeys. While they both have additional specialized training it is not 36 months and they don't need to learn a new language or culture.

Same range as city bus drivers as well.

Anybody who is in favour of PAFSO workers, is a complete idiot!! do some god damn research and find out how much they make per year and what added benefits they have on top of that. As for flipping burgers, there are other jobs where people don't flip burgers and do jobs like defending our country in Afganistan without going on STRIKE!! Jeesus christ people wake up!! why let the immigrants suffer?

Actually, our Military should go on strike, there is no other public service so badly treated I this country, bar none.

Oh and Vik, I appreciate the passion, but you don't exactly shine a good light on yourself with your choices of words.

I would LOVE to be making even close to their low end. I know people posted overseas in the military making half that. And their pay has risen each year. Plus the benefits they receive, I don't see reason to complain. If another job you qualify for pays more, why not quit and go to that job?

I don't think anyone can argue that our military isn't grossly underpaid. I would support their strike.
