I would suggest that if you write to Harper, you CC a copy to a news organization as well. Because you know your letter will probably end up in the PM's garbage or shredder. And if reporters start getting deluged with these CCd letters, they may choose to write about it.

Maybe pick the big news networks and publications (CBC, CTV, Global, Star, Globe and Mail).

Best advice.

I would include that it would also be worth adding that you support the PAFSO members and that you cannot support a government that intentionally sets out to treat people unfairly.

I'll re-write it with the email that I've found....
I'm also CCing my MP

Media Advisory - Canada's Foreign Service Officers announce additional pickets in Ottawa and escalated service withdrawals

As of today, all eligible members are striking in the following locations: Manila, Beijing, Bangkok, Jakarta, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chongqing and Astana. Immigration officers are striking in Delhi, Chandigarh, London, Moscow and Mexico City. In Tokyo, economic officers are also on strike. Additional withdrawals of service are impacting dozens of divisions at CIC and DFAIT headquarters in Ottawa

I want to know what is F....kin Harper doing about this. I haven't read one article stating that he is doing something to stop this strike

That makes it sound like they are innocent bystanders. They are RESPONSIBLE for this. Just as they are RESPONSIBLE for the increasingly longer and longer delays we faced before the strike actions. And they are RESPONSIBLE for the further slowdown we are going to face due to:

The Department of Citizenship & Immigration's decision to shift non-striking resources toward visa processing will also result in significant processing delays to applications for permanent residency.

So lets process foreign workers and tourists at the expense of family unification. Wonderful!

Can't wait for the next election when we can finally rid ourselves of these clowns.

WOW. We're talking about BIGTIME embassies as far as immigration.

I can't believe things are this with the government about it.

I'm not a big Harper basher, but I'm not satisfied with his lax on this issue.

Does anyone know if this issue has even been raised at the House in Ottawa????????

If it doesn't even make it to the floor there, this is an issue itself.

Let's pray ONE MP somewhere will throw this fire right into the centre of the house and let it be put out.

Paul Dewar brought it up...

The response is the regular canned answer.

The politicians are on their summer holiday now too. So honestly, I doubt anyone will be working on much of a solution in the HoC.

Ready to just go ahead and jump off my balcony at this point. :p

HI All
I want to know that my Immigration forms they ask me one question bellow

Will any of your family members in Canada provide financial support to you and your sponsor upon arrival in Canada? If so, please provide a written declaration from this family member including the details of his or her financial support as well as proof of this family member's annual income.

My sponsor family member giving us family support letter but what documents they should show as a proof?
Income tax? or any other stuff?

this thread is specifically for strike updates, please ask in main thread as it will be missed by others to reply

in this period of economic distress, why r these buggers on strike???

I haven't even started the application process here in Canada. My wife and I have struggled getting past nearly 5 years of corruption, under the table bribes just to gather information and documents, 3 attempts at getting her annulment completed, and an overall 'who cares' attitude from officials in the Philippines.

Now that we are legally married....after 8 visits, tens of thousands of dollars spent, not to mention the emotional rollercoaster ride, our Government throws this huge obstacle in our path. What should be a 6 to 8 month process, may well turn into years.

And I thought the Philippines would be our worst enemy. Man, was I wrong.

Harper is lax on this issue? He CREATED this issue! And as far as he is concerned everything is going according to plan.

Hi,

Just to let you know. As pointed out the Beijing office foreign service officers are apparently on strike now, however they do seem to be maintaining some level of service, for at least some immigration files. Ours was perhaps a unique case as we had been issued a COPR/visa but sent it back with a change requested. In the past week, the embassy there:
- received a courier package from us
- reviewed and responded in an e-mail to us (June 17)
- sent out a courier package to us with passports/visa etc. (Thursday June 20), not yet received.

So at least some level of service is there, actually pretty good since they haven't actually responded to any requests we made for 6 months or more. Perhaps some staff/or managers chipping in.

By the way this strike has totally stressed me out too. :'( At least for us the end is in sight. I did send e-mails about the strike to both my local MP and Minister Kenney. At least the MP responded (stock NDP response - they support PAFSO, and referred to a statement made back in April see it at:

http://www.ndp.ca/news/new-democrats-support-canadas-foreign-service-officers

Also, of interest may be a news report in the Globe yeseterday of the negative effects on Canada tourism industry, expected this summer:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/job-action-by-foreign-service-hurting-canadian-tourism-industry/article12660862/

So hang in there and hope this gets resolved soon.
