Nice! Glad to know na marami po palang nasa IT industry sa forum na to!
For my case kasi, I am starting to build my CRS pa lang by taking ECA and IELTS (in progress). Thanks to the guys here for some tips!
May question din po sana ako.. Have you guys tried looking for jobs na match sa inyo sa Canada job bank? I am NOC 2171 with ACN ulit. Plan ko din sana mag apply ng jobs from the job bank once I have created my EE profile (hoping na may chances to build my CRS score pa). Natry nyu na po? Kamusta yun? Hehe salamat!
Hi Guys this will be a long post,
I'm not trying to be a downer here, just realistic. It is extremely difficult for anyone to apply for a job in Canada while you are still outside the country(unless your creds are extremely competitive-- e.g. multiple advanced degrees, decades of experience and expertise) . Online job sites are mostly used by employers if they need the job filled as soon as possible. If you're still not there, how can you fill the post soon, right?
I've been doing pre-settlement prep even before getting the ITA and this is the most striking fact they keep repeating: the job market in Canada is mostly filled by networking: referrals, Canadian experience, etc. Soft skills are more valued, too.
Lahat tayo were granted immigrant status because of our outstanding Creds and potential for contributing to the economic growth of Canada (aka your hard skills). What will therefore make you stand out will be soft skills. I suggest you guys watch this to get a handle on soft skills and value of presentation/ public speaking in Canada (
natuwa din ako sa French accent
niya LOLs):
Also, I highly encourage everyone to attend (at least) the "Know before you go" webinar on
www.prepareforcanada.com; I attended more webinars (banking, renting, etc) which I found very useful in boosting my confidence. Also take the CIIP sessions (sign up on
www.newcomersuccess.ca; you will need your PPR/COPR as proof that you are awaiting to land in Canada).
Now, I'm not a hypocrite. I still do actively look for jobs online via indeed.ca and linkedin. I have sent out my updated resume and cover letter to a handful of job postings. I have received either a fat rejection letter or ringing silence in reply. Only in one instance have I even gotten an inkling that they were considering me... (operative word: inkling--- I am still here in Manila which shows you I didn't get that job either). I still do it because it is practice for me to "Canadianize" my resume.
Start building your network in Canada. I have gotten in touch with distant relatives, friends, and even friends of friends. It's been going well, as they now know I'm headed their way and might be able to point me in the right direction. Also look up settlement services when you get there. I have scouted the Calgary Catholic Immigrant Society myself and am willing to do volunteer work when I get there to get integrated and bulk up the network.
Read in another thread that someone sent out 500 applications before getting about 10 interviews. That's just reality. You're new there. Don't let it get to you. Prepare early. If you're in a regulated field (IT
pips, software engineering may be regulated, not sure--- check it because the word
engineering jumps out as regulated), research early about getting licensed.
Good luck
sa atin lahat. Head held high, guys! Show them that Pinoys are capable and hardworking. Let's all strive to succeed there together!
