My friend had mentioned something and I wanted to check back with you

My wife has a food bank card. We said she does not receive social assistance. Is the food bank considered social assistance?

I don't think so. There are lots of community oriented social assistance programs out there but this does not mean you are officially on government social assistance (even if the government helps to run some of these). If she is not given a file and assigned a social assistance case worker, I don't believe she is on government social assistance. I also think in most cases, being on govt social assistance means you are receiving money from the government on a regular basis for living. You could also call your provincial government inquiry line to ask as well....or call CIC contact center in Canada.

There are people who gets food bank card, because they are simply on low paid jobs, and have to raise family, they do because they don't want to go on social assistance. But you better call the CIC for surety.
