Resuming flight in Aug will be too late for students starting in Fall. First, it will create high demand of tickets and flights will be fully booked, for those who have not booked their flight. Second, no one knows if there'll be any new condition or they will keep existing quarantine requirement. To add to pressure of finding accommodation. Hope feds will consider as part of their reopening plan, by letting DLIs operating in capacity.
No direct flights. You need to go via UAE, which isn't open yet. Plus doing the RT-PCR in Serbia is nightmarish. I had to give up and resort to not so legal methods to get the report when I was there.
Oh is that so? I did hear via an acquaintance who was there that the pcr test is expensive (around 100 $)

But I got two friends flying to Serbia via Frankfurt. They are halting in Serbia for 15 hours before taking off to the final destination.

It was 150 Euros few months back and that is if you can actually manage to get it done. You'll never be able to unless you know someone there and/or can speak Russian. It is not advisable, especially on a tight schedule. I luckily had friends who managed to help me out with a report, otherwise would have missed the flight out from there.

To be honest, if I go via Serbia, I will better spend atleast 7 days there to do things peacefullly and travel around. This rush and hush part takes the joy out of life. Not for me.
But anyways, one of our classmates reached Canada today via Belgrade...Not sure about the layover part.

I think by the time my passport gets stamped, flight ban would be lifted. Infact, I was just informed that Air Canada has lifted the ban from July 29th (plz confirm)

Speaking of costs- I believe all PCR reports on tourist/international destinations are a rip off!!!
I paid 150USD plus TAXES per person in Maldives. Back in the good days. So I believe one has to be prepared for a 100USD average wherever they may go. Sad, but true!

Oh. We are hearing a lot about Aircanada flights being canceled through August 15 ( Happy Independence Day! IRCC would like you to celebrate this day at your own home. Thank you!)

Jokes apart. Is it confirmed? Because I saw screenshots of canceled flights on Aug 12 even!! Delhi to Toronto direct flight!!!

This is the previous message on their website. If you check this link, it says Delhi-Vancouver now scheduled for August 16
https://www.aircanada.com/en-ca/flights-to-delhi

I spent some time looking at this and found that while the first Toronto-Delhi flight departs on the 29th of July, the first Delhi-Toronto flight departs on August 9.

I have an uneasy feeling that the Canadian government might further extend the ban- and Air Canada is simply acting ‘pre-emptively’

Okay this sounds believable.

I will let my class live in the bubble and be happy for a bit. Till they face the reality

Exactly. My school is speculating we might not be present in classes by September!!! Good thing that the Indian participation is so huge in the classes that we get special mention lol

Pakistan / Bangladesh can travel though cause I heard those folks planning trips and I was feeling like leaving the group already Ahaha

You’re going to UofT as well, aren’t you? What did they tell you? I was told that due to some students finding it difficult to travel, online lectures will be available only for the first 2 weeks of the term after which it will be fully in-person

UofT Rotman, Yes. So they said situation isn’t great and by the looks of it there is a minor possibility that we might not be present in September (when they plan for a lot of in-person fun stuff).
They said as Indian cohort is sizable, they will keep giving online class options to us (this was on a chat and not formal but we all know universities are flexible this time around). The problem is no country in the world has achieved worldwide fame for covid mismanagement as us and we are the ONLY ones who seem to have no way out of this. So they are still trying to regulate something for us but they are also playing it by the ear.

Hope I even vaguely could answer :/

when did they say this?
I suppose it might have more to do with the visa situation as opposed to flights- it would be ludicrous if IRCC doesn’t permit students from India to attend classes in the Fall - especially after all their “ we are prioritising study permits for the Fall semester “

my understanding is that ( going by the High Commission’s tweet yesterday ) passport submissions will resume in due course, and the government will have to lift the flight ban by August at the very latest , if not what use is fully vaccinating 75% of adults ( Canada might reach that milestone in the first week of august )

This is for the flights from Canada to India.
Yes indeed, but the flight that is going to depart Toronto for Delhi on the 29th of July will depart Delhi for Toronto on the 1st of August.

but when I check the Air Canada website, the earliest direct flight from Delhi to Toronto is scheduled for August 9
