Great place to go if you have a lot of education and in the right profession (or want to teach English). But not so if you don't fit these categories... and also if you want to immigrate for the long term with your family and get a citizenship. If Asia was so great for all, why are all the Phillipinos working in Hong Kong and Singapore in health care and domestic care looking to move to the US and Canada? Because for health care jobs, can't beat the US in regards to salaries. Not so easy to get citizenship or even permanent residency in places like Japan and Korea, especially if you are not of that ethnic descent. They need you to fill some jobs but they don't want you to be there permanently.BLT said:You want a better opportunity? Go to Asia. But for business opportunity, not working. Like Jim Rogers (famous investor) said, "If you were smart, in 1800s you went to London. In 1900s you went to New York. In 2000s you go to Asia". You can see many new comers from Asia, first time they landed in Vancouver, the few first things to do are get a mansion and new Ferrari. Not only from China, but also from Taiwan, South East Asia, Korea, etc. But mostly from China though.
Like I said, business but not working. And I have seen rich Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian, Vietnamese (SE Asia) here, but I have never seen Filipinos buying mansion. Don't know why. Maybe rich Filipinos prefer to stay home rather than immigrate. Must be very good there.keesio said:Great place to go if you have a lot of education and in the right profession. They are rich not because of doing businesses in China. It's because their Dads who did businesses by the time when the law there isn't well established. AFAIK that window is almost closed. Their parents abused the law enforcement loop holes to become rich, and that is why they immigrated to Canada as their parent's "exit strategic" when the authorities began to track the losing wealth from who is responsible.BLT said:Like I said, business but not working. its because we filipino support our family in Philippines. Instead of spending money in buying mansion, we send our extra money to help our countrymen. We cant sleep properly in a mansion while our relative doesn't even have food on their tableBLT said:Like I said, business but not working. Hehe there are lots of problem in my native country, Filipinos born rich prefer to stay there because they are contented and happy. Maybe some rich people do immigrate but we don't know their reason exactly.BLT said:Like I said, business but not working. Agree i been in Dubai for 9 years before finally we decided to migrate here in Canada ;Dpie_vancouver said:Hehe there are lots of problem in my native country, Filipinos born rich prefer to stay there because they are contented and happy. A lot of Filipinos (not born rich), because of lack of local jobs go to other countries to work and send money back to their families. Domestic care and health care people after years of working in Asia or middle east wanted to go to US & Canada because of higher salaries and they now have the experience to apply.
LOL this sounds like : Everybody who is rich, is a robber/criminal. Everybody who is not doing so well, is the honest guy, LIKE ME.gzmask said:They are rich not because of doing businesses in China. My thoughts exactly! +1024CanuckForEver said:probably not the first thing, but definitely THE thing I am looking for. Voting!
Particularly, I want to be a part of the upcoming federal elections where a landslide defeat of the current xenophobic policies and the establishment that shoved down our throat is imminent. A small part of mine in the magnificent task. Particularly Jason Kenney, Chris Alexander and their boss Stephen Harper himself, all I would democratically oppose to and voice in the need of real-democracy where ever possible.
Most of the times in developing countries, rich people will immigrate. But how come we don't see many rich Filipinos here. Maybe they go to USA. I believe there are many, like a guy name Henry Sye who was once the richest in Asia.pie_vancouver said:Hehe there are lots of problem in my native country, Filipinos born rich prefer to stay there because they are contented and happy. I realized that there is a bit of too much generalization in my post, so it is edited.BLT said:LOL this sounds like : Everybody who is rich, is a robber/criminal. Everybody who is not doing so well, is the honest guy, LIKE ME.
I'm not from China, but I think it's the world's number 1 for new millionaire. Don't tell me every new millionaire is a criminal who steals money. It is also the world's largest car market, the world's largest market for exotic products (Chanel, Hermes, LV, Rolex, Patek, etc), the world's largest wine market, etc. And it has just become the biggest economy in the world, taking over from USA.
The fact that you think teaching English is the only thing you can do in China, means you cannot compete with European. Mercedes', BMW's, Porsche's, VW's, Rolex's, LV's, Gucci's, etc largest market is now China. But I think it's more of your lack of knowledge about China. Many American companies are doing well in China, like GM, Ford, Bose, Apple, etc. These companies are much more capable than just teaching English for sure. 8)
Actually it is the educated people (who are not rich) who immigrate (for better opportunity). The rich will prefer to stay in their own countries since they are already successful where they are and comfortable culturally. The wealthy who do really immigrate are ones who feel their home country is not fully stable (whether economically, politically, war, etc) and seek security in what they consider "stable" countries. Reminds me of the late 80s and early 90's when many wealthy Hong Kongers were moving in mass and buying property in NYC before the handover to China because of fears of economic instability. It turned out the handover went pretty smoothly and some of them moved back to Hong Kong. My dad loved the Hong Kongers because he own a small building in NYC and the HK newcomers bought everything around him driving up his property value.BLT said:Most of the times in developing countries, rich people will immigrate.
Yea, exactly. I said the same thing in my post after yours. You only see a flight of wealth when they don't feel their current situation as stable. Let's face it, most immigrants prefer their home country culturally and if they could be wealthy back home, they'd pick it in a heartbeat.gzmask said:Why are the elites moving stuff out of the county but not enjoying their lives as Kings and Queens there?
