This is both wrong and disgusting! First off, in both Alberta and B.C., when you apply for upgrading grants you have to declare all of your assets -- not only bank accounts, but vehicles, jewelry, etc., and go through an interview in which you swear that you are telling the truth and have included all of your debts and upcoming expenses. This includes foreign property. So yes, getting grants is explicitly based on your assets; and for immigrants who are landing, their assets are largely what they have brought with them. I don't know why you tell people things that are completely wrong.

Secondly, your attitude is disgusting -- spend all your money so you can get education for free. You, and the original poster who is already trying to line up as much money as she can, make me sick. You apply to come to Canada as professionals, but arrive as leeches. My wife has studied with immigrants like you, who hide their money in foreign countries and beg for subsidies here. I hope that the officials in B.C. recognize that you are expected to come with money to survive, and work to prevent it from being depleted.

And finally, Sonea, your final absurd sentence -- no one can question you why you spent it like crazy -- is untrue. If they give you a grant they request your bank account information, and they can audit it at any time and question expenses going back 6 months before you received the funding. If your statements look funny you will get to repay everything.

Anyway, Sonea and kmkm, welcome to Canada -- I'm sorry that people like you arrive with your eyes wide open for money to take. Surrey is a lousy place with no jobs, living there will be its own punishment.
Is this mandatory to put your money in a bank account and then spend it?? Do u know that some people here are getting grants as well as they are also getting payments (as job benefits) from their employer?? They charge their fee on credit card and then reimburse it from their employer, and both of them are independent bodies and never cross check !!!

I'm not askin kmkm to spend like that I'm only telling that education grants in Edmonton have no connection to ur landing funds and all .. Before accusing people I would suggest to kindly carefully read what someone is trying to tell and then comment

Huh!! Please tell this to someone else I've seen a person over60 years old getting a grant within a month of landing here ...

I don't think Canadian gov is nuts to call people like us here and we don't need any kind of certification from you .. Please don't take out your life's frustration over here there are other medical based forums register yourself in any of the depressed people forum

I commended you abhia145 for your detailed information about your success story. Great to see your hands on experience and we can pick up lots of stuff.

And you "on-hold", better to hold your breathe and not to attack anyone here in this forum. You're not of help here instead a nuisance.

Let's just have some peace. You can share any negative info but try not to attack anyone.

Love one another people.

Cheers.

What you're describing here is hiding assets, and it is illegal. To get educational grants you need to declare all available assets that you have -- this is standard in B.C. and Alberta both. As for your 'old person' anecdote, I have no idea what they did to get their grant, what category they came under, or how many assets they had. What I do understand is that you are counseling people to evade both the spirit of the law, and its direct intent.

Out of curiosity, do you hide your own money outside bank accounts, and then apply for tuition grants?

2. Q. Who qualifies for a Canada Student Grant?

A. Students with a financial need who meet the eligibility requirements for a grant may receive assistance. A few examples of students who may qualify for one or more Canada Student Grants include:

students from low- or middle-income families pursuing full-time post-secondary studies for an undergraduate degree certificate or diploma that is at least two years (60 weeks) in duration;
students from low-income families with children under 12 years of age;
students with permanent disabilities; and
part-time students from low-income families.
All students who apply for a Canada Student Loan will be automatically assessed for a grant. A separate application is required for the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Persons with Permanent Disabilities.

We respect students as gifts from God and welcome students from all religious backgrounds who wish to participate in a Catholic school environment. In St. Albert, religious education is compulsory in grades K-11 and encouraged in grade 12. In Morinville and Legal, religious education is optional at all grade levels. Prayer is an integral part of our environment. Many parents of non-Catholic Christian denominations, or no particular faith, are very satisfied with our programs.

Well, you're accountable to both me and Canadian law. When you tell me that you hide assets from the government and pretend to be poor in order to get free tuition and perhaps living expenses, I can tell you that you're disgusting. That's a form of accountability. Secondly, if the government audits your grant requests and can identify where you've concealed funds, that is another form of accountability.

I suspect that you've come to Canada from a place where people don't respect laws -- it's too bad, but it's not my business to do anything about it, other than tell you what I think. I'm sorry that you're posting here on a forum and explaining to newcomers how to cheat the system.

Also, you clearly have very little experience with applying for financial aid -- when you apply, you are expected to list recent purchases and valuable possessions, such as car, jewelry, etc. This includes assets or property abroad. Of course you don't have to list them -- Canada assumes people tell the truth, which in your case is a mistake.

Guys all Sonea is doing if helping people, and this too from her personal time

Well, she's helping people by explaining how to cheat the government, and claiming that it's nobody's business but her own. Furthermore, she doesn't understand the system she's cheating: she doesn't know the difference between 'assets' and a bank account, she's confused about the difference between landing funds and 'assets', and worse, she seems proud of herself.

Hello Mr.On-hold..... Keep your self and your words on hold... I know your problem.. The ppl like you,when get the opportunity to live any better place they think that they have done a miracle and no one else can.. Here now you are talking about laws and regulations because you are taking yourself as a master of this field. If someone ask here for some help then just help we do not need your master piece of advise.
as you told your wife is studying the behavior of new immigrants like me .... I will give her an advice to spend some time for you and make you help in upbringing of your mind. It will be the best time pass for her.
More over you are using words for Sonea( the helper)..... At least man she is helping the needy. She has provided the maximum help for us on forums.she just not tell us but also provides the link of websites to make us understand our questions..she is not forcing any one to act upon her saying.
Funds,grants and open eyes for money..... Do not u think that all these are our personal problems... And you should keep your nose out of it. Help if you can.... And will be appreciated.... But do not use such words next time for any one.Bc your respect is in your own hands.
Kindly any one who wants to teach the lesson of "law" on these forums teach some laws of respect to yourself.
Thanks.
those who will act on this will be highly appreciated.
