Please don't be discouraged Sumar27. There are some people on this forum that got jobs within weeks even days of landing in Canada without the almighty Canadian experience. Stay positive do your due diligence in terms of adjusting your resume to Canadian format, network and you might be one of the lucky ones.

Good Luck!
I landed in april then came back to work in dubai. i am going back to canada in august. please give me the guidelines as to how to adjust my resume to canadian format.

Hi,

My wife and I have just got the PR and are looking for a suitable job before coming to Canada. We both are delhites, I am working as an AM with Metlife (I have 9+ years of experience in the BPO domain wherein apart from customer service, I have experience into Telecom Billing with BT, and Insurance with Metlife), and my wife is working as a Manager with EmaarMgf into the Customer Relations and Sales domain (she has worked earlier with Chubb Security Sydney as a Senior Escalation Specialist and has also worked as an MIS specialist Team Lead with Cresanda Solutions which is an IT company, along with Standard Chartered as a MIS executive). She also has 8+ years of experience.
I have done my MBA in management from Sydney and she is a Post Grad Diploma holder in HR. I have worked for 3 years in Sydney and my wife has worked for 1 year in Sydney (both os us were working as Senior Escalation Speialists with Chubb Security)
Kindly suggest what route should we take to land up a job so that we can travel. Would look forward to your answers.

Regards
Sanjeev

Dear Shweta,

You might be required to work as assistant physiotherapist initially...

Rest all depends on your luck once you land in canada and how much efforts you put.

My advice is first get on to whatever job you get for your survival and then go after jobs in your own field.

But there are oppurtunities available in each and every field including physiotherapist..

Best of luck

Hi Shweta,

Getting a job in Canada is real hard, i have been trying since the past 1 month however haven't got anything yet. The job agencies say that the market is real slow and all they have is labor jobs wherein they need people who can lift 50 lb. Well if u have a good job in India its better to stick to that. Take a break from the job in India, take your PR in Canada and go back to India. Plan to move here in a couple of years once things improve. Again that's my opinion as i am also planning to go back once i get my PR card, no use staying here and doing nothing. However if u wish to do labor jobs that's your choice.

Sanjeev

You can land and return immediately, but your PR cards will only be mailed only within Canada. If you have friends or family here who will mail them to you, you would not need to stay. Current wait times are close to 60 days now, I've heard, for receiving PR card. Once you are a PR your must maintain the status by living in Canada for 2 years of every 5 year period. So you could stay out of Canada for almost three years after landing. But if you stay away that long, when you return to Canada you would need to remain until you've acquired 730 days (2 yrs) before applying to renew your card.

Hi Mayankpt and Newtone,

As rightly said by Allison, if u leave Canada your PR card will be mailed across to the address given by yourself, and then the person living at the premises can mail it back to you in India as that's what you will need when you come back to Canada. However the wait time has increased, i came on the 29th June and i still haven't received the PR card yet, hopefully should get it within a week or so, however by then it will be more than 2 and a half months. However i am not sure how well you are doing back in India. Its better if you take a break from your profession and come here for a month or two to how things are. If things work out for you then its gr8 otherwise you can still continue with your profession. I belong from the BPO industry and that's why i think i was able to land up with a job within a month, however it isn't easy as the Indian experience/studies are not given any preference (although i have an Australian MBA however i don't think that was given any preference).

Regarding the job obviously i have tried applying to various job portals without any success. I eventually landed up a few interviews by applying directly on the company websites (Rogers, Telus, Bell Canada). And i would say that's something everyone should do as you get a better salary rather than doing odd jobs which numerous individuals do in Canada. I still will go back to India as i think India has better job options to offer than Canada. Best of luck in your job search.

Regards
Sanjeev

Hi sanjeev....
Thanks for the information you shared..
we are doing good here but seems that there physiotherapy has much more to do and will give us more...
but cant say anything confidently..one of my known has recently shifted to Toronto as a pharmacist..and he said for people between 25-30 they have huge opportunities here... though survival jobs are tough to find but you all can do some other jobs like call centre etc till u dont get job in your field!!!

This was exactly what he mailed me:
Toughest task is... Jobs or settleing in same profession.
"If you are all in age between 20 to 30 years... dont look back.and migrate here"
now am totally confused..
sanjeev we have just started our clinic 3-4 years back...so it will take another 4 year to set..and so we have planned to get pr!!dont know how fruitful will this prove!!!
By the way...you are from which field??
one more thing i have read in this forum that the one who has lot of experience here and hold a good position here..it is not advisable for them to go anywhere ..as you will have to start from the very beginning......
regards

Hi Shweta,

Rightly said, its good to come to Canada if you are young as that's when you are "Raw" and you can mould yourself easily. At this age you will not be earning that good in India (my assumption) as this is the age when you start working whereas if you come to Canada you comparatively earn more (especially if we convert $ into Rs, as that what we Indians do) even by doing odd jobs. The older you get the difficult it is to mould yourself as you need to start from scratch most of the time out here.

Also if you are well settled back in India that doesn't gaurantee you a bright future from the day you land here. From this forum you can easily gauge the fact that even doctors and engineers are working in factories and warehouses, driving trucks in order to make a living. I myself have seen a few instances of the same out here. All in all if you are settled in India and you come out here after getting the PR, be ready to slug it out. There are chances that you might get lucky, however the odds are generally against us.

I am from the BPO/Call Centre domain though I have done my MBA from Sydney (Australia). However my studies haven't helped me in any context yet. Physiotherapy might have a lot to offer but as suggested earlier take a few months off and see for yourself if things will work out here or not. Don't leave your professions alltogether b4 u come here. You might even have to study to get a good job as apart from Call Centres I believe everything else in general requires u to get a license first b4 u can start working.

At the end, you will get different suggestions from different set of individuals, all i can say is take a couple months off and check Canada for yourself. I am a Delhite and i presume India has a lot to offer as well, at the end if i compare i am just earning more than double as to what i was earning back in India. You don't get appraisals the way you get in India (15 - 20%), Fixed Deposits rates are maximum 2% in Canada, but then there are positives things as well like Child tax benefits, medical benefits, study based loans etc.

Finally u need to take a call, c what best suits you, and if you have children then think from there perspective as well. Best of luck.

Regards
Sanjeev

As rightly pointed out by some members here, i find work experience/education/age all are essential only for immigrating purpose. Once you land in Canada, the story is so different and mind you its not rosy. I am a doctor with a MD post graduate degree but with all the aspirations and expectations, we landed in Canada after getting the immigration, the job picture was so gloomy. I was surprised to hear from many people in Canada, pointing me a blatant question "why did u come to Canada if u are a doctor". I was stunned to hear this and some even asked me to go back to India. I was confused and perplexed, dint know if my idea of immigration is right or wrong. Though i am a doctor, i teach in medical colleges and university, hence my job is not regulated and i can work in any college or university which conduct health science courses. So at least a sigh of relief is that i dont need to take ordeal of going all out for regulatory licensing exams to get qualified for a job in Canada but still had to slog it to the core. But my wife is a qualified dentist (masters), she had to struggle. Having seen that i came back to India.. and waiting to go back again.. but i dont know how and when..
