Agree to a large extent with the first part, but would like to add that employers are seeking both soft and hard skills...softskills cannot survive on their own, they want the perfect candidate who possesses excellent hard skills + excellent softskills too....however they don't like to take risks when it comes to business, so they can easily prefer a junior internal candidate/or a candidate that has been referred by an internal employee - over an experienced newcomer - even if he has demonstrated good softskills...this is the tricky part.Mtsteve said:In Canada, soft skills are more important than hard skills. Soft skills are the way you relate to people, that is influenced by the culture. Hard skills are your technical knowledge. In Canada, you will be considered like a recent graduate, because of the lack of Canbadian Experience, and will be expected to start form entry level jobs, as to acquire Canadian soft skills.
Some professions are regulated in Canada that menas you need to have canadian qualification or equivalent license to do job in that profession. Check the relevant govt. web pages for detail information.slimjemo said:Hi!
I am from Bangladesh. I have completed B.Sc. in Civil Engineering. I am working as a structural engineer of prefabricated steel structure for more than 3 years.I am quite interested about P.R. But I wanna know about job security when I would have moved to Canada. Can I continue as a structural engineer without having M.Sc. degree? If not, how about the scope as a steel detailer?
Regards
I guess you will have to start from the CIC website regarding the prerequisites and then take it from there. You will find people in the forum willing to assist you on specific questions.Shah.vish2004 said:hi i am looking for job in canada.. but i am based in india... and to enter canada i require some entry level job.. how do i find it ?? or is work permit required prior to getting job ??? hows the case... can anybody please help me on these??? and how do i get civil engg jobs ??
I partly agree with this comment but trust me on this. Since I've moved here I now believe Canadians are not hard workers so us immigrants moving to Canada and working the way we do get acknowledged very quickly for our hard work. And if your a peoples person who is hard working you will move up and ladder very fast. Soon as 4pm hits I noticed my colleagues running out of the office and by 4:15 its empty lol.Mtsteve said:In Canada, soft skills are more important than hard skills. Working hard here in my current job I got offered a perm position so there is hope for us once we get in.
i see your point, but performance cannot be measured based on how much time you spend in the office..leaving the office on time is also healthier on the long run - to maintain the work/life balance.nthompson said:Soon as 4pm hits I noticed my colleagues running out of the office and by 4:15 its empty lol.

I agree with you both but it also shows that their clearly watching every minute of the day till 4pm. I would not say its poor time management but some people like myself like to get in a hour early and leave 30mins after because I get more work done with any distractions.Katayoon said:Agree. Also, leaving on time may indicate high efficiency and productivity. Leaving late sometimes means poor time management, frequent distractions on irrelevant chats etc.
I second that, if you don't mind could you please share your NOC and province.nthompson said:I agree with you both but it also shows that their clearly watching every minute of the day till 4pm. And it shows that your flexible and if any possible opportunity arises I'm sure you will stand out among the others. I got my perm role because I showed great interest in the job and stayed behind to learn more about it. So being keen and adding in extra hours pays off specially if your contracted
