Hey Guys, So I am wondering how important this spousal support thing is. They ask my wife if she receives it which she does not. I have had no reason to send her support partly because she has a good job of her own and partly because we have been physically living together 80% of the time we have been in a relationship. I am tempted to answer no but some people seem to think that this is an important piece of proof of a genuine relationship. Should I actually send her some money and keep reciepts or just not worry about this and answer no?

I am in the same situation as you. I answered no since we have lived together a lot of our relationship and also because my SO has always made good money and was never nescesary. I think it is fine to say the truth, given your history it should be pretty evident why.

Also, IMO if you just send money a few days/weeks for the application it may look odd.

We were in the same situation, we share expenses and have savings together for trips, and everyday expenses when I'm there, we answered no and then in the additional page section we explained that we have a joint account for the expenses we share but we don't consider this spousal support.

I was watching videos on youtube about answering questions and one of the lawyers said that if the question is not a straight yes or no answer we can always include additional details on a separate sheet, so we did that. Some of the questions, at least in our case weren't a straight yes/no answer.

Thats smart, I didnt even think to do that. I did include proof of our joint bank accounts so I hope thats enough.

I'm sure it is mc, from what I've read joint bank accounts are a plus, a friend of mine that went through the process had a joint bank account that they never used, she still included it and they had no problems being approved. Now for them to start moving and get to april! :D

Haha, I agree! Did your friend apply to Mexico City aswell? I always thought a joint bank account was one of the requirements to be able to apply as Common-law?

Thanks for the encouagement. This process can cause a lot of doubt! :D

Tell me about it! Lost count of how many times we filled out the forms and in the end I ended up forgetting to include the 8 applicant pictures duh!

She had an inland application, her hubby is from the UK came to visit and stayed.

Spousal support is good evidence, but it is not necessary. If you didn't send her any, just state no; you can explain why as well if you want. Sending her money just before submitting the application can look a bit suspicious, if you've never done it before and there is no reason for it (such as her just getting fired, needing surgery, her birthday, etc.).
