Finally Married and ready to apply!! Need help

I'm from the US and my spouse from Canada. We got married in February and are beginning our paperwork. I've seen over and over in the past 3 years we dated ( Ive traveled to see him many times) that applying outside is best. I want to remain here in Canada (I came for the wedding and didn't return-we have our six months ahead and that ends in August) I will apply to extend my stay (2 months prior to August). My concern is being able to travel to visit the us, so I prefer applying Outside. I'm finding that applying inside Canada isn't an option for me since I'm not on a work or student visa (correct??).

My spouse, who hasn't looked over things well thinks that applying inside Canada may be best..

Please help me to present my case to him and please include the websites that I can direct him to and things I can show him.

Is it possible to extend my stay through the whole process of my application process??

DO NOT APPLY INLAND! *turns on an echo machine to be sure that continues to be said until your paperwork is finally submitted*

As long as you have a valid status, either visitor, student or worker you may apply outland or inland.

As a US citizen applying inland, DO NOT APPLY INLAND. It will take roughly 24+ months to finalize your paperwork, why would he even hint at it? Tell him we ALL said NO. DO NOT APPLY INLAND! LOL

If you apply outland you are correct, it will leave you with the ability to safely go back to the US without fear of your application being terminated if something were to happen and you were unable to return to Canada. You can remain in Canada for the entire duration of your OUTLAND application. You can't apply to extend your 6 months until you have only 30 days remaining. Once you have applied OUTLAND you can expect that you will be a full PR of Canada in roughly 8 months. This is much better, and did I mention DO NOT APPLY INLAND?!?!?!

I don't know about websites to show him, but I would suggest you show him the hellish time those on the Inland application threads are having. You can pick either 2014 or 2015. There are still one or two from 2012 trying to get through the INLAND process. Oh, and in case you may have forgotten or he has mentioned it again since you last told him ... DO NOT APPLY INLAND ....

Thank you soooo much!! Are they pretty easy going with extending my say (30 days in advanced) in this situation. I'm with you on the outside application and think he will totally be in agreement!

the current time seems to be 17 months..is that really possible at 8 months..

Ugh.. I did my police clearance too early and didn't have my marriage license back in the mail before we could apply- so it's going to be over 3 months old now. I'm hoping I can resend for new fbi paper again from here. I saw where you could from outside-do you know anything about that???

Agree with all this. 17 months is an average of 80%. If your case is simple itll be done much sooner.

Actually, I had thought I'd read somewhere that your police certificate is now vaild for 6 months? I will see if I can find that and if true, get your other paperwork together and be ready to rock and roll ...

If you do need another, it is no problem for you to have prints done in Canada and ask the FBI to send your results to a Canadian address. ....

I found the link here stating that your certificate is good for 6 months now Good luck!

That's partially true; they must be issued after the last time an applicant was in the U.S., or within the last 6 months if a person is still there.

Thank you, thank you both! It's sounding much less scary than I'd been making it out to be.. When you apply outside but are inside- do I have to provide them with an outside address (which I still have connections back home and a place to stay-always) or do I provide where we are together in both our applications??

No, you may use your current address for mailing/living for CIC purposes. If you go back to the US; however; just make sure CBSA is understanding that you are only 'visiting' at your husbands home

This is my fbi clearance and I've only been here since February as a visitor. I had anticipated having my paperwork completed in March but we are just now starting. Will the FBI paper be good for 6 months.. We are applying asap...

Yes, it's fine. It will be valid for a longer time period IF you have NOT gone back to the US, even for a day visit, since you got here in February.

For a US citizen? Yes, quite easy going. Especially if you send along proofs that your hubby has enough money financially to keep you both in pants and burgers

Usually, you just ask for a visitor extension, cite that you would like to remain with your spouse in Canada while you wait for your PR application to be finalized and it's usually no problem at all. Very few rare, if any, extensions are refused and the ones that do are usually due to criminality issues or some other such thing.

So long as your police clearances are good, you aren't criminally inadmissible and you spouse can easily pass the sponsorship 'exam' then you'd be fine.
