So we are getting ready for our move from the USA to Canada!! ;D ;D ;D
Now I have a few questions! I have been listing what is in each box as I pack them and taking photo's of most. I wanted to know if anyone knows how I should assign a value to our things? Pretty much all of our stuff is sentimental things (when you are moving a family of 5 in a two door Toyota Echo you really evaluate EVERYTHING!!) but we do have some things like our camera's, tv, laptop, gaming systems, movies, a few kitchen things and whatnot that I'm not sure how to value. I have all the serial numbers for all our electronics but pretty much everything is at least a year old so do I put what we paid for it or what we would try to sell it for if we were selling it? What about clothing? Do we just put a random amount for it? Thanks!!!!

I think the whole point of asking us to listing items and assign value, is to prevent folks from bringing in items without paying duty and then subsequently selling them.... with that in mind, I thought it was current value (and at one point I thought I read that somewhere). "If you sell or give the goods away within the first year of importing them into Canada, duty- and tax-free, you have to pay any applicable duty and taxes immediately." We are making our inventory and for larger items (some tools, small appliances, etc.) we are listing what they would be worth on Craigslist, EBay or local thrift store.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks! Yeah I'm trying to just make sure we don't have to open boxes...lol!
That will make it a lot easier for me!
