Bongski,

Thanks for sharing your insights.

Kieboy,

I got three kids 5, 4 and 3 months old. But I will be going to Canada ahead of my family then probably nine months after, they will follow. I heard so much about this mountainous province of Sasketchewan. It is one of the fastest economically growing provinces in Canada. By the way, you mentioned you bought a car. I wish to ask what's the price of cheapest toyota car in Canada? YOu have any idea?

Shuhash,

What job are you into that makes $100,000 a year? I would like to study and get a certification for that kind of profession.
You said you will go ahead of your family and nine months they will follow. They must land before their VISAs expire. If you intend to do this please be cognizant of this fact. Whatever decision you make, all the best for you and your family. Remember how we view a situation usually determines success or failure........ :)

I was not able to understand your post. You mean you are in Canada? and waiting for FSW? Are you returning to the Philippines permanently or are you going back to Canada. How long did it take for you to find a job after you landed in Canada?

To Carl 128

I really need to get the opinion of those who have the same situation as mine. If I decide to go to Canada then that means I could no longer return to my supervisory position in the Philippines. It is very difficult to land a supervisory job in the Philippines especially if you are already above 35 years old.

To those who patiently replied to this post. Thank you so much for your time. My specialization is Public Relations and Communications. I hope I can practice this profession in Toronto because Toronto will be my entry point.

Yes, I am in Canada under the live in Caregiver Program...and at the same time waiting for our Federal Skilled Worker Application, hubby is the principal applicant. I am coming home this May because LCP would take a while and I'm giving up the program...I could sponsor my family but it would take maybe 3 years or more before we'll get our Permanent Residency.

In my own opinion, there's a lot of community centers here that could assist you in your job hunting and don't forget Couples for Christ if you are a Roman Catholic they would definitely help you. I know a lot of immigrants who arrived and found a decent job, it might not be the same job that they have back home but at least they would have a monthly income... At the end of the day you're the only one who could decide for yourself and your family....Just seek for God's guidance and Everything will be alright :) Godbless ;)

Hi noel,

I live in Saskatchewan and it is not mountainous at all :) it's a prairie province. You know there is a joke that says you can watch your dog runaway for 3 days because the land is so flat. :) hehe

Anyway, I love the Philippines but the corruption and the red tape is something that I can live without. You also have to consoder the basic services that we have there and compare it with what Canada has to offer. Here you have free, quality education until high school for your kids, free healthcare... We can't say the same in the Philippines. It may not be a lot but you will receive child care benefit for your kids below six years old and child tax benefit for kids below 18. You can use this towards paying for daycare so you and your wife can both work. Only downside here is the weather, it will take some getting used to and also you don't have the support system of the extended family that we have in the Philippines.

For jobs, yes it might be hard to find one right away. I myself am having trouble with that but here your age does not matter as long as you prove you can do the job.

Been here 2 months, so far I like living here and am looking forward to warmer weather so we can explore the outdoors. People are nice and friendly, I guess they are used to having people of different nationalities here.

The decision is still yours, you've had a lot of inputs here from other forum members. Just do what feels right for you. Good luck!

P.S. please excuse the wrong spelling, I used a touchscreen phone to type this. :)

Bongski,

It seems brand new cars are expensive. Are second hand cars in good running condition?

Aycan 1998,

What I learned from my agent is that permanent Visa is valid for one year. That means once my family members received the PR visa within the month I will leave for Canada first then my family members will follow nine months after. That means if they leave 9 months after, they will leave 3 months before the expiration of the PR visa.

Vincelyn,

Thanks for sharing. Now i understand that your'e on a working visa and your husband as the applicant is applying for FSW program. I wish you all the best.

Hi Rubyalabar,

What are the benefits of the child care benefit? Since my child is 5 years old, 4 years old and 3 months old. I'm glad they are qualified once we get there by December 2011 this year. My wife is a registered nurse but she is working for Cebu Pacific Airline. She is no longer working as nurse.

Thanks for your time.

Noel

if that young your kids are, I think you will have having trouble on whom gonna take care of them. the kids benefits are not enough to pay for the whole day day care. the private daycare here is too expensive especially if its whole day. If you or your wife will work in evening what job do have graveyard shift? And FYI, the medical here is not free we need to pay for MSP (Medical Service Plan) every month. About the car? second hand car here is definitely OK. We got a second hand Ford focus 2008, its only $200 per month but the insurance is most expensive than your monthly payment for the car. And I attend Employment workshop last march and they say its really difficult to find a job here since last year recession and the economy is still low. But whatever decision you will make, good luck to you and your family.

Cost of daycare varies between provinces. In some places it may be subsidized more than in others. If you have small children, you should definitely research that before deciding where to settle. I worked with a guy at one time who had moved from Quebec to Alberta but he had 4 kids and he quickly moved back. He said in Quebec, the cost of daycare if much lower. Another option with 3 small children is getting a live-in caregiver.

Health insurance varies by province, I think in BC you have to contribute a certain amount. Here in Saskatchewan we don't pay anything. My daughter is in Kindergarten, if I find a job we would have to put her in daycare in the afternoon, I've asked around and it's about $385 a month for afternoons. It can be subsidized but the percentage of the subsidy becomes lower as your annual income gets higher than the minimum amount that the province has set.

If you want to save on childcare cost, one parent can work during the day and the other on graveyard shift. Some Filipinos I know do that and it makes sense I guess. Oh and the PR visa is valid for ONE YEAR AFTER YOUR MEDICAL EXAM WAS DONE and not from the date it was issued.

To work here as a nurse your wife needs to be certified first, I think the process is different in each province.

Rubyalabar,

Your input makes sense. That means the "one year" period will be based on the medical results issued and not on the date of the release of the permanent visa. That means if i go to Canada, my family has to follow within six months otherwise their visa will be expired.

What if my family did not leave after the PR visa expiry date, do you have any idea if this will this affect my personal application for citizenship later?

I don't think that it will. If their PR visas expire, in order for them to join you in Canada you will have to sponsor them to immigrate. I assume you are the principal applicant right? Because dependants can only land with or after the principal applicant.

hmmm. The combined gross for me and my hubby is 1.9M. But, we have applied and still consider going to Canada.

The reason, a lot. like country stability, future for our kids, retirement pay (way way higher compared to here), education, comfort living, pollution, red tape etc.

PNoy is ok, he is doing what any good president will do. My concern, who do you think will be the next president? I have a guess. :D

To land as a PR, the principal applicant must land with or before the dependants. Those of the family that land before the PR visa expires become PR's and after that, there is no principal applicant any more and each of them is responsible for their own PR, meeting residency requirements etc. without affecting each other. Each of them can apply for their citizenship when they are eligible without affecting each other.

If some of your dependants do not land, it will not affect the principal applicant or other dependants who landed. The ones who did not land before the expire of their visa will not get their PR but could possibly be sponsored later if they are eligible.

Thank you guys for all the brillant suggestions. By the way, my agency consultant informed that we are not allowed to bring more than CAD$20,000. What if we want to bring more, how do we do that? Any suggestions?

Blueray,

I wish you all the best.

Elmo25

Blueray's guess as to who will be the next president is Jojo Binay. Just kidding.

Your consultant is probably referring to this: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5052-eng.html You may bring more but more than 10,000 per person must be reported to customs.

Once in Canada, you can open a bank account and wire money into it from the Philippines. Ask the bank if there is a limit of how much you can transfer each day.
